I have had the same problem in my musical history of being interested in multiple instruments and genres. So I will never be a virtuoso for sure but it is fun and I ended up playing the instruments...
I am very curious about starting from scratch on a left handed instrument after 30 years of playing right handed. Frankly, after reading your description of your playing I was actually expecting...
Here is a description from the 1903 Gibson catalog. Unfortunately, no picture of it in that catalog.

Really nice, Skip. Is it a flattop (induced) or carved top? Have a shot of the back?
Bill: What formats are those? And are they from an online source? You can link to a web page but have to download an image file first then upload as an image to forums.
The Breedlove mandolins I have played are very nice but as I recall very different in tone from the ones you mention above. If at all possible get out to a shop and try one or three. If not possible...

I am assuming from the OP that he is the only musician. In that case a classical piece like Pachelbel’s Canon may not work very well. I personally think many of the traditional tunes mentioned above...
I am not sure if the Eastman cases or the bowlbacks are still in production. I certainly don’t see any available in shops in North America.

Just for fun I searched for the cases a did find...
That button is not an invitation to reply just a button that is on every thread to allow you to do so. Of course you can reply to 20 year old threads and it is nice that you do mention that it is...
For those joining this thread today, please be aware that this thread was started 7 years ago and the last thread the OP posted on this site was in 2019. It would be nice to know how he has...
I don’t know what you are seeing but I see just one black button that says “+ Reply to thread”. All that is is a means to reply to this thread. I am not sure if you are reading more into this. I...
Here are the gauges in inches for each course of the Labella set that you like:

I had the same experience at Esprit des Souches camp. Almost everyone is bilingual but all classes are taught in French mostly and the dances are called in French. That is not a major problem. You...
Mick: email me to discuss further.
I am approaching my fiftieth anniversary this year of playing both fiddle and mandolin. One thing I am finding is that I actually enjoy playing tunes slow or fast. They become different tunes, sort...
I would tell all of them to watch this video by David Benedict:

It looks beautiful, Rick, and I love the understatedness. What scale length is it?
My personally owned favorites are my ‘24 A-4 (with virzi), my Campanella and my Brentrup A4C. Of others I have played and not owned, one Loar-signed, virzi 24 F-5, just about any Kimble I have played...
What I don’t see is the actual dimensions of these picks on the Banjoben page. The blue one looks smaller that the others. My pick of choice for mandolin is a BC TP50 or TP60 but I can’t tell if the...
Mick:
If you really want to get deep into this music for the tunes (not songs) I highly recommend this super fake book compiled by Olivier Demers from the famous group Le Vent Du Nord: 1000 airs...
Québec is a large province and you don’t really say where you will be or if you will be traveling all around. And you say “folk songs” and from your attachment I assume that you are looking for songs...
The McGarrigle sisters sang and wrote many of their tunes in French. Here is a beautiful traditional one.
I can’t seem to embed this one, possibly because of copyright? But here is the link:...
I don’t want to make people feel bad but I have this genetic proofreading tick that makes me sensitive to finding errors. I expect and welcome the same for my errors and believe me I have made plenty...
I have yet to upload any image using a URL. It never has worked for me. I only upload from my computer or phone.
