Sherry, how did you pick out the mandolin you currently own?
That NC record was one of the things that got me into acoustic music. Even with Thile’s amazing playing, the mandolin parts didn’t really grab me then (that took a few more years) but I just loved...
I had a set of La Bellas do this recently. I emailed La Bella and they sent me two new E strings. Great customer service. Just a bad batch. It happens.
Last week it was in the teens and in my garage I had a small space heater on to keep the pipes to my washer/dryer from freezing. Today I have the AC on in my house. Texas, indeed!
The last two episodes of the Fretboard Journal podcast were about Calton cases. Excellent listening.
FYI: Guitar Center’s used section has several A-style ovals.

FYI: I think that particular Eastman model is pretty rare and hard to find. YMMV. I haven't been to a music store in Denton for a long time, but I used to go to McBride's up on the square some back...
Sherry, I know you've been given lots of input on mandolins, etc. Not sure if you've seen the Eastman oval F-style. ...
That was beautiful. I’ve never heard anyone make a mandolin sound like a harp before, but you managed to do it. Well done!
It's definitely a "one of those days" kind of things that I intend to get to. But at this point, when my family sees me getting too close to the DVD boxset of these films, I start seeing nervous...
I think the main effect that particular style of fiddle has on the Rohan pieces, is making something that's supposed to sound old to begin with sound even older. I think it works very well. There...
We're a few days into this thing here in Texas and many of my friends and neighbors are having to melt snow to have drinking water and flush the toilet. One good friend in the area lives in an...
Much the same here. I'm on the same grid as the hospital in Bedford, so we've been enjoying heat and water all along. But others are really suffering. Looking forward to the weekend when...
What exactly is the O'Carolon Project? I Googled it and found a FB page that features a bunch of videos from a harp player. Is this it, or is it a book, etc?
I got a couple of these tuners for Xmas and have been using them the same way the OP does. When I put one on the tip of the headstock of my MT, it covers up the haircut design (which to me is one of...
I’m in North Texas (Dallas area) and as I type this it’s about 5 degrees and everything is covered in snow. Lots of folks are without power and water. Not good.
If your friend indeed does start that orchestra, would you keep me in mind and send me the info when it happens?
Curious, is this Murphy’s in Irving (seems like you’ve said before that you use them)? If so, I need to get over there and see these guitars — they look great. I’m just down 183 in FabEuless.
As an American in America, she is asking a legit question as tipping is a very real “thing” here. I’ve tipped the luthier before when picking up my instrument. I don’t recall how much, but anything...
Misty Mountain Hop.
In the box sets I own of all three LOTR films, there is a TON of extra footage I’ve never managed to make it all the way through. I’m pretty sure there is some footage dedicated to Howard Shore and...
Wow, I see a post-COVID road trip coming.
I’m sorry to hear this. Best wishes with the harmonica and in everything else you do going forward.
Yes, mandolins and hobbits would definitely go together. Hobbits are a jolly folk, and the mandolin is happiest-sounding instrument of them all.
I wasn’t trying to be controversial, and yes, in these parts mandolin is the main thing. But I’d bet money that most mandolins are owned by now-and-then pickers who mostly play guitar, and who...
