    Minimum saddle height?

    Hi, All,

I’ve got a mando on which the slots for the G string were cut very far apart. To salvage it, I’d need to sand the top of the saddle down enough to get past those slots and file new ones....

Sorry for this string height question

... because I know it has been asked and answered a thousand times, but what is a good string height above 1st fret?

And is there any way to turn strings into slot saws? Or other ways to deepen...

Re: Mandolins for 6k and under?

Ive got an ‘87 Flatiron F5 Artist and it is just a great mandolin. Sounds and plays great. I’m not in love with the heel cap instead of the back carved to the bottom of the heel, and the finish color...

Re: arthritis in my left hand

As others above have said, different things work for different people. I’ve had 30 surgeries, ranging from little stuff like hernias to being pieced together after getting crushed to having spinal...

Re: Tuner that works for setting intonation?

Hey, Douglas - I see you’re in Maine. If anywhere near Brunswick, there’s a BG jam starting up on Tuesdays in the Mall near the gazebo, I forget if it’s 7 or 7:30.

Yes, sir, it did, and it works perfectly. Thanks for the tip, I’m very happy with it. It couldn’t work better. And the $13 (including Amazon Prime shipping) Peterson has 8 feet of cord with a nice...

Re: Tuner that works for setting intonation?

I like to see the tuner read the exact pitch and then get to the same value on the 12th fret to match precisely.

Tuner that works for setting intonation?

Been reading the threads on tuners and how great the Polytune and Unitune and Peterson clip-ons are, and I’m considering which to get. My question is whether any of them work when you’re trying to...

Re: PSA: you should try an actual mandolin pick!

Daryl Zanuck once threatened to have a director’s movie, “melted down and made into mandolin picks.” Apropos of not much.

Also, for chording during the chromatic run, more likely that the composer intended multiple instrument to play the run together without rhythm chords,
  16. Re: Anybody happen to have tabs for Temtation Rag?

    This chromatic run is easy to play using 2 finger on the low B, 3 for C and C#, open D, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3 open A, 1, 1, 2 on C# 3 onE flat, in other words standard chromatic fingering until it jumps a...

Re: Flatbush Waltz - my attempt to play it

    Search question

When I try to use quotation marks to specify a search on two words, like “Eureka Springs,” that doesn’t seem to be recognized as a single search string. Is there a way to do that?

    Thanks!

    Why use a heel cap?

    176607

‘90 A5-L on the left, ‘87 Flatiron F-5 on the right. Why does the Flatiron use the heel cap instead of extending the back up instead? Something to do with beefing that area up?

    Thanks.
