  1. Re: Help appreciated! My old Loar blueprints burned up.!!!

Bj, as far as I know, the blueprints available from Elderly are more accurate than the StewMac version. They were drawn and at least updated once by Adrian Minarovic, HoGo on the MC.

    Re: Allesi tuners

Steve, may I ask, which year Nicolo made those faulty tuners? I‘m asking, since Nicolo changed his approach to a more sturdy design in, I believe, 2012.

    Re: Damage to Loar A5???

Makes perfect sense, as the body is more of an A-model, which is a tad larger than an F-model body (minus scrolls and point, which was the approach of the modern A5s Gibson made in the 90s and early...

    Re: Allesi tuners

I personally visited him in 2012. Nicolo is a real fine fellow and good to work with. There may be a wee bit of a language problem, but certainly not much. While working mainly alone, I understood...

    Re: Confusing Gibson Flatiron

In 1987, Gibson bought the Flatiron mandolin manufacturing company, located in Bozeman/MT, from the owner, Steve Carlson. In that facility, Gibson continued to make both Gibson brand and Flatiron...

    Re: Loar’s Loar!

Hm, that Loar - #75315 - has something going for it, as it's LL's personal F5. For all of you considering, on this F5 there used to be a pickup installed, hence plucked borings in the pick guard....
  8. Re: Gibson Ricky Skaggs Distressed Master Model - My New Mandolin

Skaggs' Loar (#76778) didn't have a finish, when Ricky bought it. So John Paganoni varnished it. Don't know, when the neck shaving occurred. Today it has a new neck made by Gibson. And, of course,...
  9. Re: 1924 Gibson Mandolin Production Estimate - By Model

Well, in 1923 Gibson started offering to install the Virzi into sent-back-to-the-factory instruments. At the same time, there is a chance that Gibson took a few ready-to-ship F5s from the shelf and...
  10. Re: 1924 Gibson Mandolin Production Estimate - By Model

Please allow for a different take on the estimated production of F5s in 1924.
Joe, you did excellent research in this field and, to my knowledge, were the first to point out that - generally...

    Re: Straps

Simon, I actually have two of those leashes. My "boys" haven't needed a leash for several months now. They always behave and do just what I tell them to, using simple commands, such as "rosebud"... :)

  13. Re: A Review of SchneiderMusik - Caution

Thane, as far as I understand, SchneiderMusik did wrong. They are responsible for a wrong delivery ("Falschlieferung"), which is a defect ("Sachmangel"). Hence, according to § 434 Abs. 3 BGB,...

As far as I remember, the newer style Waverlies became available some time after 2005.

Re: What is this wood figuring called?

Fiddler, IMHO Haselfichte ("Fichte" is German for "spruce") does not refer to the pattern of the medullary rays, responsible for the silking, but rather to the wavy grain structure. Here's a view of...

    Re: '17 A-1 Bridge

Steve, is the neck straight on your mandolin? The neck/fingerboard on those mandolins can (IMHO should) be perfectly straight. If there is a bow in the neck, you would want to have the fingerboard...

  23. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951
