Re: What strings are you currently playing?

Into the Curt Mangan as well, on Mandolin, Mandola, and Octave mandolin, Mediums.
I will say they may be a tad light on mandola and I'm tempted to go back to the John Pierce.
    But I love them on...

Re: keeping the mando off your stomach

no two ways about it, tone guard makes big difference in volume and I think in tone as well,
they are not expensive and yes there is risk of scratching or damaging the finish,
    my attitude is...

  8. Re: Sound: opinions sought on technique vs instrument, i.e. anti-

Was having this same discussion with band members, we agree it is true -to get good tone out of superior instrument ( not just mandolins)- you have to work less at it.
    Conversely it can take "more...
  9. Re: Old dangerfield on a four string electric

Nice pickin' and cool axe, but I'm thinking Bill would probably smile and shake his head, anyway there is a noticeable difference in the ring on open strings with single versus coursed, which is...

    Re: Olga Egorova on mandola

Not only am I extremely impressed with her playing, she clearly understands deep in her heart how a mandolin or mandola or octave is to be played. I am unsure if she could teach how do to what she...

Re: Gavin Baird F5 in the classifieds

I know he was a favorite builder of Peter Ostroushko, although Pete preferred his A models over Fs. I 'm a bit MASed out from recent acquisitions but I am intrigued.

Here's an interpretation of Bart Howard's "Fly me to the Moon" as made popular by old blues eyes himself.

Performed here on Octave Mandolin and Mandola, in memory of Mary Jane Baker 1930-2020

Aaron Smith - cool, my band does that tune on occasion, I always say - if you need an example of pure American Bluegrass tune, Road to Columbus is as good as anything else!

Re: Playing Mandola - Tips & Tricks

I'm not sure there is a formula and to me some melodies do not fly so naturally, I do see a lot of playing the low courses up high with open strings in the mix.
Not something I'm necessarily good it...
