  1. Re: Just Ordered my First Mandolin, Advice?

Get a lesson to get good mechanics, either online or existing videos. Chris Thule, Mike Marshall, Don Julin and Pete Martin have good YouTube videos to get started.

    Have fun.
  2. Re: Recommendations for a great Jazz tenor guitar?

It just struck me as funny, but I hope you find something that suits you. Give us a budget and many folks here will be more than happy to help you spend it:)

Re: ArtistWorks discount - What do you think?

They changed owners, I expect the price to not go lower.

The price did remain the same for a few years, and its an inflationary time.......

It is sad that new homes often lack those design features that are so useful for musicians.

Re: Starting to see the difference

I don't recall that in my classical guitar lessons or playing. It was more 'linear' with occasional double or triple stops to end phrases or motifs.

Love the hinged tailpiece. Why it wasn’t copied and popularized seems beyond reason.
  12. Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

I have no idea what 'darker and throatier' means, but if you're looking used the best place is probably Nashville, with Carter and Gruhn's to check. I don't think a brand recommendation is going to...

Re: Do You Baby Your Mandolin?

I treat them like tools, and return them to their respective home so it’ll be easy to find when I need them again. They get maintained as needed.

They don’t get pampered but they are respected.

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

The coaching is a characteristic of the best teachers, indeed that's commonly just called 'teaching'.

The 'often free' is often worth just that price.

    Re: Books

In C, the chords are Dm7 and G7. Chords are numbered using the ‘Nashville’ numbering system, identifying each chord in a scale.

    So, Dm7, 535x to G7, 435, involves lowering the raised 5th of D one...
