    Re: Eastman OM - a one-month review

I am, yes and agree and also taking Matt Flinner's Octave course. Something is bound to stick, I figure.

    Re: Eastman OM - a one-month review

"Sam Brown Hill" is addictive too - also from Joe's course. Finally have that down. And, you did a great job on Inverness - very smooth. Something for me to aspire to (next).

    Re: Recording King Tenor

Yes, I own one and like it a lot. If you are interested in exploring, you can't beat the price. If you are planning to tune GDAE, I recommend using octave strings - that'll be the first upgrade (and...

    Re: Eastman OM - a one-month review

I love my Eastman OM, I've got and had lots of instruments and I just think for what the price is, it's a very strong value and the sustain is amazing.

Re: Mixed octave strings on low end

Good advice, thanks. A quick look at Just Strings seems like the 12 string pairing for the G string would be a 46 and 30 and the D string would be a 32 and 14. I must have something close around here...

Mixed octave strings on low end

Hi folks - I have J80 strings on my Eastman OM and I'm interested in swapping in higher octave G and D single strings, so I'll end up with gG dD AA EE. The gauges on the low end now are 46 and 32. To...

    Re: Parlour King 19" tenor

That's very impressive. Seems like the large lower bout and sound hole must do quite a bit for the low end and that narrow top bout is really eye catching. Wish I could hear it - and cedar to top it...
  10. Re: Nobody Knows You When .... chord progression confusion

Fantastic - thanks for this, too. I'm sure this is a no brainer for you guys but having the underlying understanding - even roughly - lets me go to chord tones and then suddenly, I'm playing...
  11. Re: Nobody Knows You When .... chord progression confusion

OK, interesting, thank you. So I guess the theory for that part is that the Dm is the relative minor of F so that they share the same notes and F is the IV. That's cool. Thanks for pointing that out.
  12. Nobody Knows You When .... chord progression confusion

Last night I was noodling and thought "oh yeah, 'Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out' " - I used to fingerpick that on guitar. So for GDAE, I figured I'd give it a shot and looked it up on...

    OM case stinks

I got a Carrion case for my Eastman Octave and while it fits fine, the chemical odor given off is bogus. I have left it open in the garage at night and in the sun during the day and it's not going...

    Re: Octave Mandolin Course

Matt is the best, I'll take anything he offers and have. Jo's course on Peghead is excellent, too. The first tune by Duke Levine is beautiful and doable with som nice extras to grow into.
  15. Re: Octave Mandolin Course for tenor guitar players in GDAE?

What Chris Gray said: definitely works. Sam Brown Hill is a great song. Also, Matt Flinner is teaching an Octave course right now and he is an outstanding teacher. I'm taking that one, too.

    Pros/Cons - 4 vs. 8 strings

Hey folks, with all the snow, I've had time to do a lot of maintenance on various instruments and as part of that, I've removed 4 strings from my 8 string Eastwood Mandocaster. Amazing how such...

    Getting static suddenly

Hey folks - I have an 8 string Eastwood mandocaster. When I got it, I got Almuse pickups and I lined the cavity with gold foil. Sounded great. I do not use it that often but it's kept in a humidified...

    Re: Recording King ROST-7-TS - part 1

Hello - expecting to receive a new Ibanez Parlor tenor today. First one was damaged in shipping. They ship CGDA and I know that I will definitely want to try GDAE. My experience moving to heavier...

    Re: Recording King ROST-7-TS - part 1

That's good information, thank you. I have the new tuners and the reamer as well as bridge pins. Just go slow with the reamer, I assume? And also, another assumption is to ream to the depth of the...
  24. Re: Eastwood Classic Tenor - Experiences from other owners?

Hi - not from the UK and FWIW, I have an Eastwood mandocaster and I had good success with two upgrades. 1. I bought new pickups from Almuse in your own UK (pete@peteandsue.force9.co.uk). Pete is a...

    Re: Recording King ROST-7-TS - part 1

Thank you!. I did determine they were Philips but knowing they are #1, I'll get a better screwdriver at the hardware store tomorrow. Don't want to strip them. Thank you again.
