  1. Re: Weber Bridge - nut spinning, unable to raise/lower

I have not seen a Brekke bridge in person so will defer to Hank. Sound plausible to me, it looks like it is high,
  2. Re: Weber Bridge - nut spinning, unable to raise/lower

If it is holding the strings up, the threads are not stripped. Watch when you turn the nut and see if the threaded part turns also. You may have to hold it if that is the case.

    Re: Homemade Tuning Peg Tool

I think some tuner posts are not centered in the gear, as they turn easy until they reach a certain spot, then turn hard, then easy. Either that or something gets out of wack between the post and...

    Re: Vega Mando Banjolele

I use tenor banjo stings on these, 10-28. I buy two sets. It will sound better and put much less stress on the instrument. It is first a banjo and second a mandolin.
  5. Re: Wrapping strings around tuners too many times restringing?

It doesn't reduce string tension on the instrument, it reduces string tension on the string from bending and coming out of the post. I helps to keep the string from breaking.

Re: Airloom Tura carbon fiber mandolin case

It just means it gets used, like a well played instrument, it shows. I prefer the marks to the stickers.

    Exactly right.

    Re: Homemade Tuning Peg Tool

I made one a while ago to tune harder tuners. Fortunately I can still do the easier tuners. Guess there is a new business opportunity for someone.
  9. Re: Wrapping strings around tuners too many times restringing?

Looks like several folks have answered the question about winding the strings on the post first. If you keep the string tight when you wind it doesn't take long to get it up to tune. Unless I am...
  10. Re: Wrapping strings around tuners too many times restringing?

Actually the right number of windings takes the stress off the string coming out of the post. More windings, less stress on the string.

Re: compared to a Weber mandolin.

I don't feel these are going to give you the sound of your Weber. You may try and look for a Silver Angel, tho I am not sure how many were made with a wider nut. A Morris may also be another choice....

    Re: Neck thickness??

I just looked at a few other guitars and they all stay the same to the heel. Even a 1928 Martin doesn't get bigger as it goes up the neck.

    Re: mandolin wolf tone?

I have had a truss rod vibrate, even tight, in a guitar. It's hard to tell where it is coming from as the buzz travels with it's sound. It was more of a buzz tho and not a wolf tone, so I think...
  14. Re: Wrapping strings around tuners too many times restringing?

I put 3 turns on the wound strings and 4 on the plain. I put all my windings on before putting the string thru the hole so it's always the same with no guesswork. It's also a lot faster.
  15. Re: Dose anyone know anything about this mandolin or its value

I use the microphone to text, it often types different words. Too small of a keyboard and much simpler to talk than type. I have also, when I remember to read the text to check for said errors, seen...

    Re: Neck thickness??

My Brentrup stays the same to the heel. I have a guitar I built 30+ years ago that does the same. Neither have neck problems. Both have truss rods.

    Re: Re-fretboarding a Vintage Gibson...?

Those two frets can be pulled, the slots filled, then re-cut an new fret after measuring for proper placement. I have had to do this a few times, it makes a world of difference. What year is your...
  18. Re: Solved! Follow-up to "A pedal tuner question"

The pedals would come out of the 1/4" send on the red eye, they would then return there too. The XLR would go to the PA. If you don't use your boost switch it can be converted to a mute. Your tuner...
  19. Re: Solved! Follow-up to "A pecal tuner question"

Your signal should go the the RedEye first or your are not really getting the impedance match you are looking for. You most likely could eliminate all the EQ pedals if you went to the preamp first....

Re: Bar Frets from Wiper Blades!

I bought bar frets from Martin when they sold out 30 or so years ago. When I needed to refret my '28 2-17 I was lucky and they were the next size up in thickness. Perfect, and now my neck is...

Re: High e-string keeps snapping, help?

I wrap the string around the post before threading it in the hole. It's quick and easy, it's also fast, did I mention that. It takes the stress off the string at the bend. Winding over the string to...

Re: High e-string keeps snapping, help?

If they are breaking at the tuning post look for a sharp spot in the hole of the post. Are you wrapping the string 4 times around the post?
  25. Re: Repairing "edge banding" on old Sovereign mandolin

A magnet on the inside can be controlled by a magnet on the outside. You will know exactly where the inside one is. The rare earth magnets work well as they are powerful.
