    The bandurria had only 5 courses, and was strung in gut before it got a 6th course. These older ones are nowadays generally called the baroque bandurria. 1890 seems very late for a 5 course one...

    It looks relatively similar to a violin tailpiece. I wonder if a violin tailpiece blank (i.e. uncut) would do the trick?

    That's a 4-string domra, tuned the same as a mandolin (the 3 string version is tuned in fourths).

    Sounds great!

    I once tried a similar experiment once by simply replacing the bridge on a cheap steel-string guitar with a sitar bridge. I never did the scalloped frets though.

    Well spotted!
    The nut is slanted, so that would suggest fan frets, even though the bridge is straight.
