Re: CMSA Convention in the Clouds

I'm surprised they are charging $150 for non members to attend. I would have thought they might try to make this online event more accessible to draw new people in. the IBMAs took this approach and...

  5. Re: Fantastic David Grisman Quintet one mic recording

Great camera work as well. Given how much he was moving, I'm amazed it didn't pick up his movement on the microphone.

    Re: Advise on a Webcam

I've been doing webcasts for my church with good results over the past few months. We use a Logitech C920 Pro HD webcam. It will easily handle 2 people 6 feet apart. The built in microphone is okay...

Re: Cantigas de Santa Maria - Cantiga 119

I've always enjoyed playing the Cantigas on the mandolin. Such a delight to hear.
  8. Re: Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680): Modo hypodorico

Beautiful piece, and an introduction to a very interesting man. Thanks for both.
  9. Re: A likely contentious opinion on electric mandolins

For me Warren Ellis shows what an emando can do:

    Re: Vulfpeck - Thile appearance

This world has gotten too uptight. This world needs more groovy music so we can all lighten up, get in touch with our joy and maybe even learn how to dance with abandon like hippies.

    Re: Vulfpeck - Thile appearance

That was pure joy! The look on the two guitarists' faces said it all.
  13. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

I thought it was interesting how they included some of the outliers. They gave a lot of time to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Circle album, even though it never was embraced by country radio, even to...

    Re: Satan is Real movie

Sex, drugs, the coming of rock and roll, sibling rivalry, and some smoking hot music. What more could a movie ask for? I'm sure many country music stars will be begging to do a cameo in this film.

    Re: Nash The Slash documentary

It was the Invisible Man meets Salvador Dali. His soundtrack to the Dali-Bunel film Un Chien Andalou was one of the most surreal experiences of my teen years.

    Nash The Slash documentary

Nash the Slash was an avant garde/new wave mandolin player from Toronto. I think I saw him about ten times, either as a solo artist or as part of the prog rock duo FM. A new documentary is being...
  20. Re: Inexpensive Mandolin with longer scale length and wide nut wi

You can put new strings on a tenor ukulele and turn it into a mandola. A cheap fix that's a fun alternative.
  21. Re: Inexpensive Mandolin with longer scale length and wide nut wi

    A mandola perhaps?
  22. Re: Passepied by Debussy - Punch Brothers transcription

A very carefully orchestrated 'spontaneous' event.
  23. Re: Found this little beauty: Electric Mandobass

So what would be the tuning of this beast?
  24. Re: One need not have any super-fancy instrument to have bouzouki

Dennis your conversions have been a delight and an inspiration to a whole lot of cigar box guitar makers and DIY enthusiasts. Have you made any more upright bass projects? Cheers!
