    Re: Screws for tuner buttons

Fingernail polish will work just a well for this, come loose easier when you want it to, and cost less.

Re: problem with an ebony fret board

Don't know if it was mentioned, but I usually file each fret slot slightly with a triangular file to help from chipping our when removing them later.

    Re: Tuners for an F-9

I find it depends on the thickness of the top as to how much changes in environment affect the mandolin. Thinner tops don't seem to move as much as thicker ones. At least it is that way with the ones...

    Re: Tuners for an F-9

A mandolin going flat overnight is no biggie, happens all the time, unless it goes sharp. Room temp and humidity can do that easily.

The tuners feeling stiff is another matter and it if is your...

    Re: Really Basic String Question

I am pretty sure they are the same, or as Ray(T) says very nearly. I have taken plain strings from guitar, banjo or mandolin and noticed no difference. Wound strings from the same manufacturer are...

    Re: Which bridge?

I adjust all of my bridges while strung up, I don't have a Brekke. They are good bridges all, the most important is the fit pf the bridge.

    Re: 7th fret problem

I have also cured problems with a string change. I would at least change the offending string first before doing anything else.

    Re: 7th fret problem

You could simply angle the foot to help. If that is not enough I would not soak the saddle, but instead cut some wood away to take the string back to where it needs to be.

    Re: Gifted mandolin

If you string it up to play, use really light strings.

    Re: Pre NAMM discussion

My old Calton has a nice storage space under the neck support. I would opt for a smaller case and forgo the storage at the bout end.

    Re: Tone Dexter users?

The RedEye is far superior to the K&K preamp IMHO. While I have tried the Baggs, K&K, Orchid, and RedEye, I have not tried a Zoom. The RedEye is the latest and have been using it for a couple of...

    Re: Tone Dexter users?

McIrish, what preamp are you using? I have a K&K and get a great sound, very similar to my mandolin. I am using a RedEye pre. I also mounted the K&K different and maybe that helps.

Re: Quick Gibson A set up question

My action is less than that, but if you like the sound have the bridge lowered. It is not adjustable via a screw, but it is adjustable. Is the neck flat or does it have too much relief? I like less...

    Re: Wide neck Mandolins ?

There are mandolins with a 1/4" neck. My '22 A2 is one of those. A wonderful sounding mandolin, tho like Markus I am preferring a narrower neck these days.

Re: Need advice on selling Flatiron mandolin

I couldn't find anything on a 1DC Flatiron either. They did have some other models like 2M and such. Maybe it was a custom instrument.

Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

If you have another mandolin you can always string it up with the next heavier strings so tuning down a half step will still have a fair amount of tension. Keep that mandolin for this particular gig.

Re: Tristan Scroggins & Molly Tuttle
