  1. Re: Need help in identifying an old bolwback mandolin

Most likely Chicago made, very possibly by Harmony. If not them probably Lyon and Healy. There's more here though. At some point in time somebody converted this to a four stringed instrument and was...

Re: Did Elvis prefer the scroll?

    It's a Gibson Style O guitar
  3. Re: Are Lilliputians allowed to sell on ebay?

If you really wanted the case you could have picked it up for a fraction of the cost. Check out this thread. I bought one of these and it came with the bag.

    Did Elvis prefer the scroll?

I've been looking for this picture for years. Apparently I shoved it out onto a server at work on a project to use as an example image.

    Elvis digging the scroll.

Re: Any info on Jim Woody in Kansas

While you're waiting here is the only current thread other than this one that mentions Mr. Woody.
  6. Re: Are Lilliputians allowed to sell on ebay?

If they were selling the guitar I'd buy that.

Re: Cleaning Mold From Inside a Guitar?

If the Microban doesn't do the job and since it's already apart and I'm sure will need some major work I would consider some sort of enclosure (outside your house or shop) where you could enclose the...
  9. Re: Which higher priced F style models have solid wood scrolls?

The whole scroll is hollow? How are you determining that?

    Re: Truss rod soda straw?

Does anyone know if Dairy Queen straws would work? I'm a Warren Buffet fan.

Actually, I have a few Olive Garden straws that I grabbed for a few other projects where I needed a black tube to...

OK Jim, I've waited days for you to join this post...
  13. Re: How did you feel about your new build Mando?

To be totally honest, some people shouldn't take this plunge. Simply ordering a custom built instrument might not make you happy and I'm sure every custom builder would rather have a customer coming...

Re: I just want to know the year

There are a few different Martin plates in this thread. I'd say those tuners on these Martins were probably attached to the plate.

Within a few years most of the manufacturers started just...

Re: I just want to know the year

Different manufacturers used different tuner styles. This was a "look" that some manufacturers wanted (and perhaps the buyers wanted as well). Weymann actually put their covers on the front like this:

Re: I just want to know the year

Chances are that is simply a cover plate for tuners that look somewhat like this.

    Re: Alternate cases for bowlbacks?

Building a box isn't all that hard either. It's pretty basic. By chance do you have the dimensions you're looking for?
  18. Re: oddball (pseudo?-) resonator w. amusing "professional" setup

Yup, here it is. That one is hard to forget.
  19. Re: oddball (pseudo?-) resonator w. amusing "professional" setup

We've already seen this or one set up the same way. The only thing I could think of was that maybe they played it with a slide. It makes no sense.

The easiest way is to simply copy the address from the top bar of your browser of the video you want to post. It would look like this:

You should get Hubert's book. It really changed the way most of us looked at L&H.

    Re: Vega Repair

Just fix it with the toothpick trick that has been described three times I think. Loosen the strings when you do it.
  24. Re: Replacement tuners for an Eastman MD404 ??

There are different things that make mandolin tuners stiff. One of them is the holes that were bored for the post. Get them a little off and the tuners become almost impossible to turn. The other is...
  25. Re: Replacement tuners for an Eastman MD404 ??

Grover made them back in the late 60's. They were awful.
