Re: Rochester NY - Mandolin Orchestra organizing

Bernuzio's is usually pretty good about posting what's going on at the shop, and I've seen nothing about a mandolin orchestra since I moved back to Rochester this past summer.
  2. Re: So what is the "real" value of a Loar in today's world?

This I completely agree with. You see this with other collectibles as well though. If a seller can tie some historical significance to the object, the value generally is higher than the same object...
  3. Re: So what is the "real" value of a Loar in today's world?

I'm a millennial (perhaps the tail end of it being 31), but the other real issue for my age group has been college debt greatly decreasing my ability to purchase much of anything. My wife has a...

Re: Who's tried the new D'Addario flattops?

Do you know what the material is? I used to use their flatwounds for my archtop, but the stainless material was doing a number on my frets.

    Re: Videos helping saies

I think you're right that not having videos won't discourage sales, but it is nice when places like TME, Elderly, and obviously the builders create videos of different artists and instruments. For...

    Re: Northfield mandolins

There's also some discussion of the build methodology in the first video I posted earlier this morning. Seems like a great concept.

    Re: Northfield mandolins

Looks like these haven't been posted. I hope Northfield continues to build their social media presence as it sounds like these instruments are really special. I'm saving for one now.

    Here are a...

    Re: Northfield Artist #30

I'm glad that belongs to someone here! I saw the back of that instrument on Northfield's Instagram, and have a picture of saved amongst my rotating desktop backgrounds. Everything about that...

Re: Pinky Question from a Guitarist

This was a big revelation to me. When I play the guitar, I am a thumb behind the neck person, but the mandolin is not a small guitar and requires it's own technique. Learning the correct fretting...

Re: What was under YOUR tree this Christmas?

My wife and I closed on our new home in NY after our move from Maryland, so I suppose it was under the tree! I have a space to practice and work on my dissertation again, so that is certainly gift...

    Re: Eastman Mandolin Family

Thanks again to all that have replied. My 315 has a very sweet voice to it and it is a joy to play. Considering my main guitar is a Benedetto, I'd like to get something nicer down the road, but try...

    Re: Eastman Mandolin Family

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will be sticking with an F-style (just my aesthetic and tone), but I had a suspicion that the quality may not be that much better, or if it was, not a thousand...

    Eastman Mandolin Family

I am an admitted fan of Eastman instruments. I have played their archtops for a number of years and now have a 315 mandolin. My question is about progression up the line. If I wanted to "upgrade"...
  16. Re: Incoming... (Stepping outside of my comfort zone) - Mandolin

Welcome! I have an Eastman as well (a MD315) and love it. I've had a few other Eastmans (all archtops), and even at the low end like mine, they make wonderful instruments. Play it in good health!

    Back to Mandolin

A year or so after selling my very nice Loar, I am back to the mandolin. I had been trying to sell my Eastman 7 string archtop for ages with no luck. Thankfully, Bernuzio's took pity on me and now...

    Re: Mid Range Mandolins?

Not sure where in MD you're located, but when I lived there I used to love visiting Appalachian Bluegrass. They have a great selection of mandolins and the staff was always great to me.

  20. Re: Back to normal life! ... and humidification questions

Some of my online friends have used an Aprilaire system as an add-on for their homes. Some of these guys have extensive archtop guitar collections. I don't believe that a system like the Aprilaire...

Re: Mandolin Shops in Williamsburg, VA area

Picker's Supply is a great shop, and it's in the historic part of downtown Fredericksburg, so it's a great place to take a break for lunch and of course check out a nice shop!

    Re: Which room humidifier?

I don't think anyone here is going to disagree with what you've written. I keep a hydrometer in the room with my instruments to measure the RH and humidify based on those readings. Getting moisture...

    Re: Which room humidifier?

I just went to Home Depot and bought one that was in my price range. It has a gallon capacity and with the weather being as cold as it's been, I've had to fill it nearly every day.

    Re: My Great-Grandpa's Mandolin
