    Re: Mandos on the wall

I wanted to hang a guitar on the wall, so I got a $3 rake hook from the hardware store. Works great.

    Re: Desert Blues

    Any of the above.

To be (slightly) charitable to Jimmie, maybe the chief was just scary. Or the singer didn't want all his food to get et.

Those early country singers weren't all the most...

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

Yeah! How come guns are essential but mandos aren't? Whats the dif? They're both loud, annoying, expensive, and dangerous in the wrong hands.

    I mean sheesh. Fair's fair.

    Thanks!
  6. Re: Martin A Style vs. Eastman 315 for Folk & Bluegrass

All well said. Great advice: Keep that Martin whether you get another mando or not. Old Martins have stood the test of time for good reason. They're good instruments.

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

I think you've got all the bases covered.

Here in Maine, the governor just declared gun stores essential services. I don't think that word means what the governor thinks it means, but you can...

    Re: Know You Rider

Most of my Dead shows were in the early seventies. You would've loved 'em. Mostly stopped going when the crowds got too big.

    Re: Know You Rider

I might have been at that late show. I know I caught them there in early '70.

Those guys were so much fun. It would be light out by the time the show was over.

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

Yup. I just wouldn't ask my luthier to go to his shop or to the UPS joint. It's not essential travel, and the governor has only allowed essential travel.

Yeah, I think folks are just venting. Now's as good a time as any.

    Now where'd I put my ventilator? . . .

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

I'm simplifying. Here's some stuff from the state website:

Q: What are the essential personal activities in the Executive Order?

A: Essential personal activities include the following with...

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

I have no compulsion to risk a fine or spread germs, and I wouldn't ask my mando whisperer to risk a fine or spread germs, either.

(Here he is, by the way: Dennis Patkus.)

    Meanwhile, I have a...

    Re: Know You Rider

Always worth a mention! Yes, that has to be the most listened-to version of the song. The other band whose version reached a (relatively) mass audience was Hot Tuna.

    Re: NOT an essential service?!

Sure. My guy has a shop, but even if he worked at home, I'd still risk a stiff fine if I tried to go there.

The Guv's orders: only drive to doctors and food stores.

    That's okay by me. I'll...

    NOT an essential service?!

Two weeks ago, I dropped off my new old snakehead Gibson with my mando whisperer to get it up and running.

    Now I have to wait.

Since when is luthery not an essential service?

    What a world....

Re: buying first mando without playing?

Buy used. That way you more or less make your money back when you sell it.

Never played a Gallatin, but they look groovy, Weber has a great reputation, and I've never heard a bad word about them....

Oh, man! That's why I got rid of my first mando. It had a single-coil pickup under the strings, right by the fretboard.
