    Re: Kevin Bacon on mandolin.

I know very little about movies, but now I like him, too.

Re: Peghead Nation vs OAIM for ITM Lessons

You know what, in the end I'll probably try both. In the meantime, I've heeded the suggestion made elsewhere on the forum and contacted Marla directly for a handful of Skype lessons. It's very...

Re: Peghead Nation vs OAIM for ITM Lessons

Mike, have you tried one or both yet? I'm facing the same decision as you.

It's not a question of price. Both look like good value. My problem is that I only have time for one course. And that's...

    Re: Help with video conferencing

Bill, you neither checked whether only free software was meant, nor did you make any concrete suggestion about which commercial products would suit the requirements.

As a happy user of Audacity,...

    Re: Help with video conferencing

This may sound obvious, but what about Skype? People teach music on it, so the sound should be bearable. And video conferencing is possible on Skype now, although I don't know the practicable...

Re: Some very fine Nancy Blake mandolin

Absolutely brilliant. But is she playing with her fingers? I can't see a pick in any shot. And why does the audience applaud before the tune is over?
  10. Re: Handel: Sarabande in D Minor (La Folia), mandolin quartet

I can see what you mean about the second version being bassier. I like both. My slight preference would be for the original, but then I'm listening on earphones too right now. I'm sure you're right...
  11. Re: Handel: Sarabande in D Minor (La Folia), mandolin quartet

That's a lovely arrangement, Martin. The counter-melody is really nice.

Re: Conference Call Jam Session !!

More of a folk club approach, then: One person plays, the others enjoy, everyone takes their turn. I think that could work because latency is less of a problem.

  14. Re: Stressful Times: Bringing New 'E' Up To Tune!

It happened to me on Friday. Very bothersome.
  15. Re: Song Of The Chanter - Celtic Mandolin Music

Yes, I enjoyed it very much! This tune is new to me. I like it.
  16. Re: A song of hope... that I needed to hear.

I like your playing and your voice. Thanks for sharing this with us, and I hope you come out of this crisis healthy and back in gigs and musical employment.
  17. Re: Stefan Sobell mandolins and other instruments

Congratulations! Does it sound as good as it looks? With a Sobell, perhaps even better?

I completely agree with the point about physical distancing and social solidarity. I'm a social psychologist, and this very same point has been made by several colleagues. If more people offer to...

I love triplets, but you need to be special to play them as well as these two. So much lift and energy!

    Re: Virtual St Patrick's Day

I had my first day of home office today. Lots of us haven't been at work, right?
