Aaron,I agree with your assessments. I can use the Peterson ok but prefer the Unitune.PS,My first Unitune would eat a battery in a few uses. Sweetwater sent me a new one to replace it. Works great.

Donnie Stiernberg is the playa on the right.
Frank? Must be Frank Wakefield? JK.
Nice job on the repair!
Color me skeptical. Suicide or homicide? Maybe a thought for another angle to the song. Gotta love old-timey murder ballads ala "Dreadful Wind and Rain" or "The Willow...
The minimalistic,Nugget, tailpiece looks like it would leave the string windings exposed to flesh and clothing. ?
I don't even allow sharp string ends on the tuning posts, prefering to leave them...
Good question.
Why don't all builders put double side dots at the 12th fret?
Good education is always expensive in both money and time.
"Never make your move too soon." (B.B.King)
Br1ck,I think separate vacations can be very good things.
Jimi Hendrix was naturally left handed. His father tried to force him to play righty. That didn't take.
Now I want to get a left hander mando and string it up to play right handered just to mess...
Chris Thile is a lefty who plays righty.
Listening to Butch's Evergreen is an uplifting thing for me. Then I put on The Travelers with Butch,John R. and Robin Bullock. Good stuff.(check out "Birdland Bounce" a Reischman composition!)

Not sure but looks like Webb is holding his pick backwards ala Reischman? Unique grip. Wears mandolin high. Ergo the headstock strap.
Said his "favorite" mandolin was a 27 Fern. He sold it. Dang.
Yes! Interiority.
Dawg said, basically, that years ago. Play(not practice) until you develop your own unique sound/style.
Maybe it is time for me to grow some of those special mushrooms. But...
So you can get that Hendrix thang workin.
Had new Waverly tuners installed on my 1993 Monroe Gibson F5. They are sticky/tight. I'm sure it is because of improper alignment/installation.
I paid large to have an "expert" repairman install...
How about a set of Monel mandolin strings in 11.5 16 26 40 like the "custom medium" XT set?
Silver plated hardware looks nice when it ages. You can polish it or not. I like it when the silver gets dark.
On a '26 Fern I'd settle for worn gold. I guess. If I had to.
I want the Prucha with that speed-control dial! No,I need it.
I won't miss the EXPs. XTs are very nice strings. Still sounded good after a month or so of daily playing.
My hands and ears like Monels though. Hoping that Daddario Monels will come in custom...
I was happily grateful you opted to play "Ripple".
Nice sound! Beautiful instrument.
Just took off a set of XT Daddarios after about 2 months. They were still pretty good but I really prefer the feel and tone of Daddario Monels. I used the XT strings on two different F5 mandos and...
Not nearly the affectation that is the last 9 or 10 frets on a full-Florida fretboard extention.
A good resonant mandolin will vibrate not only the strings from bridge to tailpice but also from...
Whatever the thickness or brand I want speed bevels.
I like to add a little steeper bevel on a Red Bear Xtra heavy for mandolin.
I always include Halloween as a Holiday,so playing the Theme fromThe Addams family gets me in the mood.
Later on I like to play my heavily tremoloed version of "Silver Bells" on mandolin.
Pick...
The MacArthur Foundation seems to think well of Mr.Thile.
That Gil reminds me of the X-braced one I had of about that vintage. Great mando but couldn't afford to keep it.
Such is life.
Didn't see that the mando was plugged in. Was the reverb from the...
