Re: Best live gig setup for mandolin/guitar

How about an sm57 microphone instead of pickups? Easy to swap between instruments. My band uses them for live performances when we have to amplify.

Re: The world's most precious gig bag?

To be fair, it does offer ample high-density padding. :)

    Re: Waterloo Mandolin Released

Mandobar, what was the actual price you paid?

I'm hoping my local dealer will get one that I can try out.

    I have one of these:

I have had it for years. Great way to get backpack straps on a regular case.

    Collings MT Prices

I was cleaning out the stack of music I keep in my case when I came across my mandolin invoice last night. I bought my MT new in 2012, it was $2330. Gloss top Amber. I am seeing new ones in the...

Re: Newbie here, suffering from analysis paralysis

I can't speak for the mandolin, but I did buy one of the Eastman gig bags from the Mandolin Store when they were on sale a few weeks ago. As gig bags go, I like it a lot!

    Have fun!

    Re: Who doesn't memorize tunes/songs?

For tunes, I only use sheet music as a way to learn a tune I don't have a recording of - and even then I memorize the tune; I wish I could sight read faster. In my band, we don't do a lot of...

    Re: I Don't Do Tab

I'm not much of a tab user, but I have nothing against it. I have mainly learned by ear and through standard notation. I say use whatever floats your boat!
  11. Re: Finished Notation for the Tab Addicted Mandolinsit Now What?

Change things up and learn something by ear :)

Re: Looks like a good price on an MT.

That is a good price. The seller may just be motivated to sell it quickly.

I have watched the prices of new ones climb also. I bought mine new in 2012 for $2350 - honey amber gloss top. I...

    Re: Rigel on Ebay

I got a brand new Rigel A+ deluxe in 2003 I think. I played it for about 5 years. It had fantastic playability, but ultimately not quite the sound I wanted. I went from there to a Breedlove to a...

Re: review of the rigel I just got.

Glad you like it! My way of solving the strap/case dilemma when I had my Rigel was to take off the strap, roll it up and it fit in the storage compartment. And, I never liked the big bulky...

I'll be taking a family vacation this summer, and I don't want to take a mandolin on the plane (I do on business trips, but we are already overloaded with carryons), so I'm considering shipping it...

    Re: rigel mandolins

    Re: rigel mandolins

I played one for a few years. Loved the playability, and the pickup worked great! I ended up selling because it didn't have quite the sound I wanted. I like my Collings MT better. $1500 seems...

Collings MT vs MF vs Stivers F

    Re: Favorite Doc Watson albums

Ditto "On Stage" - one of my favs. Doc and Dawg too.

Doc is my all-time musical hero. I was lucky enough to see him in concert in 2001. I will always treasure that ticket stub.
