  2. Re: New San Bush album focuses on John Hartfiord tunes

Should be great! Too bad that Sam isn't calling this album "Volume 1."

BTW, I think that it's basically a one-man-band overdub project, perhaps with some additional vocalists.

It’s been there since June at that price —- which is double their Gilchrist F-5’s.

    Re: Weber Yellowstone Experts

My tremendous 2004 Gallatin F mandocello's serial number is 402811. Just six digits.

So, am I correct in interpreting that to mean that the instrument was built in November 2004 (as I've always...

I have a 2011 Yellowstone, which still has whichever unlabeled tuners were standard at the time. The only problem I have had with those tuners is that one of the A strings starts slipping every...

To add to what Hank just posted, on the Webers built after 2009, the serial numbers have eight digits, and the first two digits give the year.

    Re: Weber Yellowstone Experts

Kevin is right about the labels having a code, but it goes in a different order. As I understand it, the first one or two digits give the build year, and the last one or two digits give the month. ...

    Re: Loar K-5 Mandocello

    Absolutely!!!

I don't know how long Mike and Caterina were playing it before Stevie filmed the video, but I doubt it had been played much this century before they walked in the door that day. I...

MFG is entirely a consignment shop. Stevie never advertises for instruments because he says that they "just walk in the door." As Martin said, it is "more of a 'boutique' shop." You'll usually...

    Loar K-5 Mandocello

According to Mandolin Archive, there are seven of these, which were built on an L-5 body. I saw one of them at Mighty Fine Guitars in Lafayette, CA yesterday, in a "look, but don't touch" encounter....

Five years ago at Swannanoa, I met a banjo player, now a good long-distance buddy, whose brother had bought a pre-Loar Gibson A at a garage sale for $50. No, I...

  19. Re: Looking for recommendations on a ‘20’s Gibson oval A

If you’re okay with a pre-1922 Gibson A, then you should be able to find one for well under $2K, unless that market has skyrocketed in the past few months.

That’s the good news! The bad news is...
