Re: Gig bag for pancake mandolin?

Have you ever noticed how much pancake mandolins look like tennis racquets? :)

Take a trip to your local big box sporting goods store. It's a real plus if your name is Wilson.

    Re: Another rescue, older hondo

Does it look like any in these pictures? It would b easier if you could post a picture of your mandolin.

Re: Drop In Tuners For 1933 Gibson A

It's still up. Paul Hostetter's family has kept it alive.

Re: A model case for old Gibson

What I really miss are the old Musicians Friend cases they sold for $25.00 and fit a short neck mandolin perfectly. I still have one.

Also, check the slot in the nut for the strings that aren't turning to make sure it's not binding there.

Re: Epiphone Windsor in the classifieds

There is history here. People either love them or hate them and they appear every now and then. Someone posted this catalog page years back. If this was Harry's it has been discussed here before.

Re: Drop In Tuners For 1933 Gibson A

Actually the tuners you used would not drop into his. The post spacing is different.

Re: Drop In Tuners For 1933 Gibson A

If it is indeed a 1933 then you need the modern spaced tuners. Stewmac makes two different Golden Age tuner sets. One will fit the earlier worm under models from the teens and early 20's and the...
  10. Re: Bourgeois M5A Mandolin - Anyone seen one in the flesh?

Eastman Strings owns Bourgeois now and I haven't seen anything from this partnership as of yet. Hopefully it won't be similar to the partnership between Gibson and Epiphone or Gibson and Flatiron.

Re: Should I Resist Waverly Tuners?

I resisted the temptation for years. Folks will tell you how there's no reason to buy them and there might not be but when I finally bought two sets someone here posted a statement on my thread that...

Re: Any ideas on what this is?

My first thought was that the original posted mandolin might be a Kay but I'm leaning more towards a United product but still can't call it because there are no full pictures of the front or back....

Re: Can anybody tell me what I have?

And that in itself has always impressed the heck out of me. Growing up in Porltand, Oregon Roy Smeck was just a name on the song books and later on a Gibson model guitar. I stand in awe.

It was part of the Charles Lindberg craze. It wasn't the only one.

Re: Can anybody tell me what I have?

Yup. I've never seen the case but I'm sure it was original. Pretty cool.

It was built by the predecessor company of Kay in Chicago.

Re: Shopgoodwill . Com, says Gibson

Those were sold at the Gibson Opry Mills store as a tourist souvenir. They are basically a mandolin shaped object. They were using a cut down Epiphone truss rod cover screwed onto the headstock that...
  17. Re: Dark trails appeared on the neck of my mandolin

I keep looking at this and wondering if that is some sort of reaction to the finish or a wood filler used due to exposure to sunlight. Kind of like the way varnish can get darker after years of...

The IV A style kit is the Saga kit. If he has it in stock that would be a good price.

Re: Distressed Mandolin and Regular Playing

There is a movement within the American hot rod community to build cars that look like they are total rust buckets. Rat Rods are what they are called. Not my cup of tea.

    I'll also note that people...

    Re: Bowl back id

They went to a whole lot of trouble to make it look like a Martin if it isn't. I think Martin would have branded it one way or the other like they did with the rest of their private label stuff.
