Thanks Fred, but I don’t think that’s it - his instruments have “Schofield” on the headstock, at least the ones I can find. And unfortunately I don’t have any pics, and I don’t recall a label. It...

Hi, ran across a nice A style mandolin a little while back with “JS” on the headstock. I haven't been able to find any info on who the maker is - any ideas?
Try the Ellis/Pava shop.
Man, those terrified tops on the Ellis mandolins really scream.

Do NOT move to Colorado, it is awful. Weather is terrible, people are miserable, music scene is lousy. The doctors are quacks. I am telling everyone I can to not move here.
I wish you well.
Hi James, just so I am clear, are the following correct?
You can record a mandolin using GEN and it will sound the same when you switch over to HGH, and vice versa (if eq is set to flat)?
You...
My favorite mic for mandolin has been the Shure Ksm32. And yes room treatment is important, but you can build a “good enough” booth out of blankets and pillows. Keep in mind ribbons typically have a...
I have a Pava and have played several others. Also played and heard a handful of Ellis mandolins. Hard to quantify, but the Ellises in general had a more sophisticated, complex tone, though the...
Yes, AFAIK. I think you would set up your guitar WaveMaps using the GEN firmware, then your mandolin WaveMaps using the HGH.
I guess this also means you really have only 11 slots for the HGH...
Thanks Scott. Pava Mandolins Facebook page has a few pics up, and a video of some old hack banging on one of her F5s.
Starting with v1.3 firmware supports use of guitar and mandolin eq settings without needing to reload the firmware:
High (HGH) version code now designed for multi-instrumentalists. High bank slots...
Also a ToneDexter fan, though I have only used it with my fiddle (don’t have a mandolin pu yet). I said elsewhere that if you want your instrument to sound like it’s mic’ed but you can’t or don’t...
Plenty of good suggestions above, I’ll add in the Shure KSM32. As others alluded to, mic choice is situationally dependent. An LDC on a stage with a quiet audience is great. In the corner of a noisy...
I don’t have a pickup on my mandolin yet, but I do have a cyber twin for guitar and Rhodes. Great amp, super versatile, not surprised that you were able to get a great sound out of it.
I don’t live in the mountains but have spent plenty of time there in every season. I’ve never had heat related issues with any of my instruments. Then again, I am almost always camping where there is...
Good common sense, but for the OP, average high temp in Telluride in June is 68 degrees. Other considerations of course if one wants to bring their nice instrument, but “too hot” isn’t one of them.
Ellis A, Pava F, or maybe offer $6k for this Flatiron:

What does pre/post Hippie mean? And TOH?
I posted this at fiddle hangout, but thought some of you would be interested (I don’t have a pickup on my Pava, my experience with this is with my fiddle but imagine it would work just as well with...
The Sign Off has no indicator light, but a couple other Pro Co models do - the Power Mute and the Panic Button.
I use a Pro Co Sign Off. It passes phantom power, and there is no pop when you hit the switch. Solidly built.

Anyone familiar with Lock Mandolins? Can’t find much info on here aside from some old newsfeed articles, and it...
It’s back up (and so is my go fund me page).
That Blue Chip sounds amazing!;)
