Re: NMD Arrow 5 string Jazzbo

Autocorrect is a bane to us all. I edited it to 'silking' as it was supposed to be. Thanks for the heads up.

We picked out the wood from Paul's stash one afternoon, it was really fun. He knows...

    NMD Arrow 5 string Jazzbo

Got a call from Paul Lestock on Saturday to say my Jazzbo was finished. He's been making them since at least 2013 and there's videos of Jason Anick playing his on Youtube.

    Paul mentioned that he...
  3. Re: Who makes a symetrical F case for my two-point?

I have an Armitage case that Austin Clark provided with my 2 point. Not really small, but very sturdy.

    Re: Paypal poliicy question

It seems everyone's advice is that this is a bad idea.

Aphorisms like 'there's one born every minute' and 'a fool and his money is soon parted' come to mind.'

There will be another item from a...

    Re: Moon Wood

If you believe, it is a thing.

With 13 full moons a year, plenty of reasons to be suspicious.

    Re: Mandolin Pricing?

I'm sure it changes over time for a solo maker. I would suspect in the beginning the price is driven by the cost of production. Over time, price can reflect the demand for your instrument, better...

    Re: Barre chords

Just play 3 strings on the barre chords. So much easier and so little additional sonic information in the doubled root note. Ymmv.

There’s also the 677x barred A chord, which is quite useful.
  9. Re: Ellis A5 special deluxe - Brentrup M23V - Gibson F2

They’re all very nice, but it would be very hard to replace the Brentrup and the Gibson, and you have a new Ellis on the way, sooo……..

If you like the big fundamentals, the Gibson is surely a...
  10. Re: Tal Farlow, born this day, 7-June, 100 years ago

Thanks for this. He’s one of my heroes. Got to see him in a small club in PDX in the early 80’s. Wonderful, a cultural hero for me, loved him with Red Norvo. I recall the story that he quit when...

    Re: Road trip music

I really got into Adam Steffey’s New Primitive on the way home from The Wenatchee festival a few years ago. The speeding ticket took the fun out of it:crying:

    Re: Memorizing a song

Listen to them a lot and sing or run the melody through your mind, ie, visualize it. I found that to be quite powerful.

Hope it gets easier for you.

Re: Is this how it starts?

    Well done:)

I have an ‘investment’ maturing in 4 weeks, along with one for my wife. This way no one gets to count.

    Re: Question about Collings mandolins

Used instruments with an approval period can be fairly safe purchases. You’ll pay return shipping if you don’t like it.
  18. Re: What song, Album, Musician changed your perspective on music?

That’s a gorgeous tune, also done on Adam Steffey’s ‘New Primitive’ album, fortunately not sung by him:)

NMC, but I follow Christian Von Hemert. Went to his his workshops at Wintergrass a few years ago and his site is full of the same friendly enthusiasm for the music.

That’s bling done well. Hope it sounds as good.
  22. Re: What song, Album, Musician changed your perspective on music?

“The Ballad of Davy Crockett”. I was six, and allowed to play that little yellow record all by myself. Music became accessible. It’s been downhill ever since.
  23. Re: Article: Weber Announces Pause in Mandolin Manufacturing

Since I don’t work for TOH nor own stock, my life hasn’t changed. I’m surprised people have strong opinions on this.

Doesn’t impact my 1998 Absaroka either.

    Re: Amplification

I believe Steve Carlson makes a mandolin designed to solve this problem. Zeta, Elderly has them. NFI.
  25. Re: A potential project or a horrible concept?

Yes, it’s a horrible idea. (You asked:)). But don’t let that stop you from working on it.

It seems the gain from the small size will be overwhelmed by the hassle of the amp.
