    Re: 1992 Nugget A Deluxe #155

You’re there, just take it home:)
  2. Re: What's a good way to get a decent appraisal?

List it high. No bites, lower the price. Interested folks will probably want to negotiate.

You can also check prices from sites like Reverb to see listing prices.
  3. Re: Left forearm tendonitis? Or something else?

May be D'Quervain's syndrome (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/de-quervains-tenosynovitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20371332}. I've had it starting in my thumb, moving down to the forearm...

Doesnít float my boat. Glad folks like it, but it was 7 minutes of tedium for me.
  5. Re: Molly Tuttle and Tristan Scroggins: Olympia, WA

Re: Luthier Websites - Browsing preferences?

I like both Austin Clark’s and Audey Ratliff’s websites. Both sites are fairly direct and to the point, with models and pricing clearly displayed.

I’m a little prejudiced since I have done...

Sticky: Re: Loar Picture of the Day

The image in the archive link shows the scroll directly in plan view, ie, face on, and the openness between the body and scroll looks quite a bit larger than I have typically seen. But.I certainly...

    Re: Frank Wakefield

I saw Frank Wakefield with Don Stover in Ithaca in the late 60’s. I don’t remember anything about his playing but the group of spectators did not find his humor, which appeared to be based in the...
  12. Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

I haven’t seen many extremely curly birch mandolins, they’re mostly straight grain with small amounts of figure. I’m sure many folks have seen many more examples. But very curly birch used in...

Re: Ornamented Dolphin Flat Back 1900-20s

Love the hinged tailpiece. Why it wasn’t copied and popularized seems beyond reason.
  17. Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

David McLaughlin used LaBella's, and he is known for a dark tone on his Loar. Of course, he liked them dull too.
  18. Re: Looking for something darker and throatier

I have no idea what 'darker and throatier' means, but if you're looking used the best place is probably Nashville, with Carter and Gruhn's to check. I don't think a brand recommendation is going to...

Re: Do You Baby Your Mandolin?

I treat them like tools, and return them to their respective home so it’ll be easy to find when I need them again. They get maintained as needed.

They don’t get pampered but they are respected.

That mandolin doesn’t have a truss rod.
  21. Re: String gauge advice for 14.5" 5-string electric mando

I think Don S. uses 10-16-24-38-50.on his Stevens. I have 10-15-24-40-50 on my Arrow, 15” scale.

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

The coaching is a characteristic of the best teachers, indeed that's commonly just called 'teaching'.

The 'often free' is often worth just that price.

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

I’d take some basic lessons, it’ll be more efficient learning in the short and long run. I spent 6 months playing the ‘little guitar’ and it took a trained eye to tell me it’s a violin analog, at...
  25. Re: Mandolin Tasting: Gibsons, Buckeye, Duff, Northfiled
