To me, the solution is obvious. One of each :) Would love to find a used Weber Bridger OM, but have yet to see one for sale in the last couple of years.
I'd estimate I use about 80% mandolin fingerings on my 20" scale octave. But the bluegrass chop chords don't work (at least for me). Almost all of the traditional Irish/Celtic tunes I know work...
I agree! That River looks so fine.
I ran across this Bruce Weber short promo video on octave mandolins from a few years ago. He describes their 20" scale octaves as "octave on valium" in comparison to their 22" scale octaves. I think...
I watched the video and gave this method a try on my octave just now. All I can say is, I had no idea there was such a simple solution to stringing a mando (or guitar). I'll never go back to trying...
I love that green cutaway with the modern looking f-holes from his website. I'd probably go with the standard body but love that look.
This is a very interesting discussion, thank you! I have recently acquired a Weber Bitterroot F octave with a 20" scale length. The G string using D'Addario EJ-80 OM strings simply do not sound...
I heard that Chick Corea passed away today from cancer. As a lifelong jazz enthusiast and player he was one of my heroes. Simply in another universe of excellence and integrity. About 5 years ago...
Thanks meow, that looks just like what I'm looking for! Hey, I have family in Coquille and Bandon! Thinking of moving to the area.
I have a new (to me) Weber Bitterroot F20-F OM on its way to me and have been thinking about a strap for it. Looking for your opinions and suggestions. My basic criteria is flat leather (not the...
I wish the Hercules double/triple stands could adjust for each instrument. A mandolin and larger instruments must all use the same settings. You end up kind of compromising to get them all to work....
That dust caused me to just give up on humidifiers. It was actually giving me a chronic cough, which stopped as soon as I turned off the humidifier. My home is consistently about 25% relative...
I frequently take my mandolin from Reno (high desert elev. ~4000ft and dry) to the Calif. coast (sea level and much more humidity). Every time, I spend the entire time in Calif. tuning down my...
Interesting discussion. Would the quality of the tone woods have been better on the a2-z vs the a2? Maybe closer to an a4 snakehead?
Gentlemen prefer blondes.
That seems off the chart expensive for a non-vintage mando. Even with "The Gibson" on the head stock. Maybe I just don't get it.
.055" = 1.397mm
I live in Reno, but Nevada has a very odd/arbitrary rule that only "ambient" music is allowed. The definition of ambient music is somewhat opaque, but essentially means that you might find a band...
I have owned several 'A' and two 'F' mandos. My only comment would be that the F doesn't slip or move as much on my lap while seated due to the points. Never have used a tone guard.
A friend had an acoustic guitar with "The Gubson" painted on the headstock. But I think the instrument started as something else and someone along the way added it. Good for a laugh.
TP roll is what I use. That or a small pillow.
I just finished installing the NF/Gilchrist tailpiece on my NF5-S. The install was very easy, and the holes line up perfectly. The replacement screws allowed me to tighten everything down snugly. ...
But there are many many different OM configurations. Not just guitar or teardrop. There are oval hole, D hole, F hole, F body, A body, scale length, carved top, flat top, scale length, materials. ...
Yes, I've had a similar experience. :)
