    Re: Major chord arpeggios

    +1

Good point. Western Music is historically tonic music.

Tonic = (1) Key is important, (2) chord tones are important, (3) diatonic harmony is important. Sure, there are plenty of exceptions...

    Re: Major chord arpeggios

To put it another way, the space between notes is more important than the notes themselves.

Playing one note in unison over and over and over and nothing else is not very much fun and not very...

    Re: Major chord arpeggios

"More notes is better than fewer notes" - Excuse me if I'm reading you wrong, but that seems to be the gist of your thinking, and I couldn't disagree more. Following that logic, why learn any...

    Re: Sultans of Swing tab

If you're like Guitar George, the rhythm playing shouldn't be much of a hill. The lead, though - if you can play the lead through like Stangeland tabbed it out at Mandozine, then (1) you're good, (2)...

FWIW, Johnny, Waylon, Elvis shared quite a lot of experiences in the early touring days.

  10. Re: Do you know of an easy, safe program to convert wav files to

Just checked, and yeah, pricey enough ... I paid $35 for the commercial level version. Looking at their web page, it seems they have a free, never expires version for home use as well. Website at...
  11. Re: Do you know of an easy, safe program to convert wav files to

I run into this fairly frequently, since I move files between programs a bit and also serve some mp3 and m4a audio files at my website. Yes, programs like Audacity, iTunes, etc. can export mp3...

Home at last, after 9 days in Beverly Hills. I was making repairs to upscale woodwork in a new construction building over there, and I am happy to be back home.

Stuck in a hotel in California, I took the opportunity to record Coming Down From Rising Fawn. Didn’t get it clean, but at least got it recorded in one take.

Simple. The young women are playing their mandolins; the old men are posting on forums.
  19. Re: Reading mandolin music score by NOT using TABS

You didn’t mention a genre, but if the music you’re finding is “only tabs” I assume you’re looking for/finding some type of folk music? If so, you might consider using the Tabledit program, because...
  20. Re: Just for fun and interest - favourite acoustic tones

I don’t play all those instruments; if I could play like Doc Watson on guitar, Bran Oberlin on mandolin, Leon Russell on piano and Vic Wooten on bass I’d be happy.

IIRC, you are from my home state of Louisiana and I think we're about the same age. I was a child of the 60's (b.Jan1955) and early 70's. I learned folk & mountain music from my relatives and from my...
