    Re: Vintage Harmony Electric Mandolin

I bought one of those back in 1989 from JC Penney. It came complete with a chipboard case, and the price at the time was $79.00. It is all pressed plywood, but it was a great instrument to learn on.
  4. Re: Breaking all the rules but.. it still sounds good..

Every time I bought a new mandolin, I would ask an expert friend of mine to play it back to me. He asked me why I did that, and I told him that I just wanted the instrument to know how good I...

    Re: America Made Mandolins

My Weber F Prototype just keeps on sounding better and better. There comes a point in life when you can stop looking for something better. You already have it.

    Re: Are capos cheating

    Re: Weber ste f prototypes

Eighty-seven years and tendonitis have made my STE lonely, as it sits quietly in its case, wondering where the old man went. I gave my Takemine guitar to a nephew's daughter, who now has a new...

Re: WARNING! Fraudster Alert on ebay!!

Exception, please. I saw a post requesting info on mandolins for $1500 or less. Having one, myself, and not wishing to violate forum rules about posting adds or links to adds on this forum, I asked...

    Top grain, wide or narrow??

I have always thought that the narrower the grain of a spruce top, the better. Yet, I see fine quality mandolins, some with fine grain and some with very course grain. How does the grain effect the...

Re: What does your mandolin really sound like?

When you hear the non-reflected sound, it is coming straight up to you, and is at right angles to the direction of soundboard vibrations. Your ears are, in effect, in a null zone. When you move it...

    Montan-made Flatirons ?

Can anyone tell me when the last Montan-made Flatiron Performer was made and signed by Bruce Weber? I see a couple here in the classifieds, and the date seems little late.

Re: Where to go if you like mandolins

Since I turned 87, my Weber doesn't like me anymore. It just sets in the corner and sulks. Guess I'll have to find it a friend.

Re: Had to use my mandolin capo! LOL!

A couple of points: Some people are limited by physical problems such as arthritis, or age. Some haven't reached a stage where they can play in all keys without the capo. I have seen the look of...

Re: Thile goes Neo Old Time

  24. Re: Okay...DRONE....what in the world......is a drone?

A true drone is a string which, due to its identical or harmonic relationship to the note actually being played, vibrates without intself being played. I have seen violins which had one or more...
