    Re: Mystery Brand Mandolin

The photos remind me of my 2nd mandolin, bought back in 1978 (1st mandolin was a bowl back)
    It was a "Hondo" brand.
I think that the mandolin was sold under a number of brand names.

Re: What are your go-to crowd pleasers?

My go to song is "Back Home Again in Indiana"

If there's a lot of kids, I start with Old Joe Clark - it has verses that they can laugh at.

I don't know what the value of a Kentucky 172 would be, especially in English Pounds.

    Re: Thomann tenor

I cannot speak specifically about Thomann's tenor guitar, but I can speak a bit about Thomann's instruments.
I have a Thomann Irish Bouzouki.
    "and it seems cheap"
Yes. it is. Like my bouzouki, it...

    Re: Oval Hole Resale

Mr Busman hit the nail on the head in post # 2.
Buy a mandolin to play it.
Get the mandolin that you like and will enjoy.

"a decent oval hole should sell pretty easily."
    Indeed. Many people,...

    Re: Slower is faster

Well, Maybe it's just me, but I don't worry so much about speed.
    I worry about playing smoothly.

  13. Re: Music for mandolin, guitar, cello and piano?

My suggestion would be the Shaker hymn "Simple Gifts"
It is accessible to all skill levels and is accessible to all of your instruments.

After listening to "Memories of Alison", I thought that...
