A while back I asked Michael Dubova if he would be interested in building me a tenor guitar. He hadn’t done one, but was was keen to try. He really is great to work with and receptive to my ideas...
That piece is beautiful, Rob...but what about limiting the finger aspect as well to just our distinctive opposable ally? To wit:

Nonsense :) Six strings = overkill and besides everyone plays six string
That's my first resort... I leave the left corner nails of my right hand a bit longer. You don't need six inch nails -...
Yes they are...and the back is nicely carved arched-style. The 80-something gentleman who sold it to me runs a multi-generation plating business in Brooklyn. They were downstairs in the same...
Never learned it before, now that I have a tenor, it seems like a thing to do. I feel like I should have a Martin though. :-)
This latest craze is inspired by my niece singing along to "Dust in...

the warren ellis models are a LOT better on quality control - perhaps the astrojet is korean made too (Eastwood's own admission to me).
The classic was my first electric tenor - so i took the rough...
Interesting thread. Only contribution I can make is I like a wound A (in GDAE) on a tenor, it sounds a lot better to me than a PS A when strumming chords.

i can tell you that my '59 Martin o-18t is huge sound wise. I have a high end modern tenor (Mcilroy) which is lovely, but the martin has age and played-in-ness.
the O-18t has so much mojo - hard...
I just went through this journey. I talked to a lot of builders and music stores. If you want a more modern instrument you basically have to order one, get lucky and find a used one (Big Thanks...
I used to spend a lot of time on this arrangement. And I revisited it a couple days ago and finished it up. Let me know what you think... link below

It's behind schedule, but there is a world wide pandemic going on after all.
Hard to complain.

Somehow I didn't know about Eddy until this morning when a friend mentioned him. He died on April 9 from complications due to Covid-19. One obit is here. Another is here.
He is known for his tenor...
Just an additional thought, but anyone entertaining the thought of buying one of these should probably look at it more as a steel string baritone ukulele more so than a tenor guitar - size wise.
Standard Mandolin.
Nobody tried it with this instrument?
