    Re: Dagger Gordon video

This is a Bulgarian piece which I learned in Crete last year. I went for a week long seminar at Labyrinth Music Workshop in Houdetsi with a Spanish musician called Efren Lopez, of whom I am a very...

Quite a lot of the names mentioned here cropped up in a similar thread about Irish bouzoukis last year.

    Brendan o'Regan mandolin playing

I very much enjoy Brendan's mandolin playing. I caught a bit of a Facebook live performance he did about 3 weeks ago but I don't think it's still on his page where he ended up with what I think might...

    Re: Faraway Grandchild

Here is a version of The Faraway Grandchild. There is quite a lot of wildlife activity going on, between bees and pigeons flying around.

    Re: Suddenly feeling old

Well you know, Jimi Hendrix died in 1970 - 50 years ago.

It might not be old school exactly, but certainly quite old.
Anyway where do you stop? Look at Charlie Parker - a wild man who redefined...
  7. Re: Learn to play multiple instruments at once?

Sometimes you can find that you are better at something than you expected, but you won't know till you try.

I'm pretty sure that many of us who mainly play mandolin didn't necessarily start that...
  8. Re: Recordings of Mandolins as String Quartets

It's good to see the Melonious Quartet (who are French) get a mention. I always thought they were great.
They don't seem to be active these days, as far as I can see.
  9. Re: Stefan Sobell mandolins and other instruments

I would help you if I could, but on this one I'm afraid I've no idea. Sorry.

This is a tune I really like playing on my 10 string mandolin - The Turn Of The Tide by the late Ian Hardie.

Cathal Hayden is the business, both on fiddle and banjo. I belive he's made a CD called Hooked On Banjo, but I haven't heard it.

    Re: We Lost John Prine.

Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott do a good version of Paradise in this fine set from 'Live At Hippy Jack's'.

It's altogether a great listen, with a lot of good mandolin from Tim. Paradise is their...

    Re: cretan mandolin

    Thanks for this one Cretan.
I had not heard Giogos play mandolin before. I think he's great on the laouto, but I must say this is a pretty good mandolin workout.

Re: 10 Questions for Dagger Gordon

    Hi,

Well I'm all right but of course we are in lockdown along with the rest of the country.

    Re: Faraway Grandchild

I wrote the tune for my wife's parents shortly after the birth of our oldest child Colin, who is now 32.

My wife is American, and her family are based in Connecticut.
