Tenor guitars are fabulous. Went to TGs and tenor banjo from mandolins. In fact, traded an Eastman mando for my first TG.
My two TGs spend their non-playing time on stands in thd "music room." ...
It's great when you find a place like that.
Have a ball with the new TG.
The D'addario EJ66 string set (10-14-22-32) is another way to go if one doesn't want to go the single-string route.
Been retired since 2009 and love it. My spouse also retired at the same time. Work was intense and glad it's behind us..
Realistically, it took almost a year to adapt to the change of pace. ...
Well, that was the last one in Elderly's inventory. That's what they just told me. Whether they will reorder more from Martin is anyone's guess. Don't know how big a seller it was, but I sure feel...
Happy day! The Fedex guy dropped off my new TEN515 this morning. After four hours of letting it get acclimated, tuned it up and ran it through its paces for about 20 minutes. The only word I csn...
Would love such a book, and hopefully a video series would follow....
Well, just got off the phone with the good folk in Lansing. A new Ten515 will be winging its way South in a couple days, along with a couple spare sets of D'ad EJ66s. Sure wish most places were as...
Does anyone know whether this Martin tenor is made at the Nazareth site or the Mexico site?
Went through a similar evolution, going from 6-string guitar to mandolin, tenor guitar, tenor banjo and ukuleke. The mandolin is still fun, but as an old guitar guy, really missed the deeper guitar...
Don't. It will haunt you

Congrats on the 40T. I got one a couple years ago in a trade and have never regretted the deal. I have gone back-and-forth GDAE-CGDA several times, but CGDA is my favorite. Doing a decent set-up...
Have been this route already. I have had an 8-string tenor ukulele (Oscar Schmidt OU28T) tuned CGDA for quite a while. In fact, all of my ukes are tuned CGDA. Aquila makes a string set (#31U)...
The point here is a good one, and not limited to Rogue. What seems to be true most of the time is that the lower the price is, the more set-up and customizing work is needed to make the instrument...
As a compromise, restrung my baritone uke to GDAE (G3-D3-A3-E4). Tried a G2 and didn't like it - too deep and just didn't respond well. Went to "reentrant G" with the G3 and was pleased with the...
The 9-year-old 250 could be a good deal, depending..... what condition are the frets in, any cracks, any splitting at the seams, tuners operating tight and smooth, is the top recessed where the...
Over the years have gone up-and-down the mandolin price scale, including a Rover 50 and an MM FM1. For the OP's price point (somewhere <$500), getting a used well-set-up instrument off of the...
An alternative to using a tenor guitar is to try a baritone ukulele (scale length 19 inches) for that tuning. I have my tenor guitar (Blueridge 40T) @ CGDA and the baritone uke goes back-and-forth...
Several mandolins have come and gone, but the Tone Gard stays here and is put on the latest stable addition. Many thanks to the inventor!
Makes sense. The beauty is at this price point one can conduct any kind of experiment relatively fearless.
Yes. Basswood. Definitely no laminate, but the lacquering is quite hard.
I wondered about that when I first saw the photos. Having the mandolin, the scroll became a non-issue. I kind of like having something out-of-the-ordinary. I don't notice it while playing, anyway.
Just got it and reviewed it via another thread.
After reading a bunch of downers about the Morgan Monroe Rocky Top RT-FM1 mandolin - all from folk basing their opinions on photos, the price tag and the wood used, but never touching one - I...
