Old Growth: they are all very close. The 1990s Nugget has a better low end and excels at swing chord voicings. Very even across the strings & up the neck. Don Stierbeg's nugget and mine sound...

    Re: Ellis A5?

I have been fortunate enough to have chased down & caught a few great mandolins. I let a very good Collings MT2 go to pick up an X-braced F5 Duff. An Ellis A5 wormed it's way into the herd and...
  5. Re: New Apitius Club Jazz Mandolin acquisition…

I love the whole vibe of that mandolin. Visually flows together. Not as ostentatious as an 5F, but sensuous in its curves. Bet you're not taking it to a lot of Bluegrass jams!

    Re: Neck length

Also, don't confuse neck length with scale length. Your Od Wave has the same scale length (nut to saddle) as an F-5 at 13 7/8", despite joining the body at about the 12th fret rather than the 15th. ...

Re: Not all Collings hold their value

I always look at instruments for their pro-rated cost/hr entertainment, if I think about the cost at all. Your Collings MT2, if sold today, cost you about $6/hr of entertainment if you played it 10...

  21. A little not bluegrass by a master bluegrasser

Danny is one mandolin instrumentalist who is not confined to one style of music. His "Sorta Annual Concert" last year was spectacular.
