  3. Re: Rough and ready ... quick and dirty, electric conversion.

Hey Verne, I have had very little to do with solid body electric guitars and I really did not know much about them however.... I have spent the last week or so studying them. So now, I know a...

    Re: New Tenor guitar

    What is the scale length?
You are right about the string spacing being very variable, nut size can range from 28mm to 36mm the most common is 32mm.
Some folk like baritone ukulele style wide...

Re: Single Coil Pickups for Tenor?

I think hot rail or lipstick would look the best .
  8. Re: Rough and ready ... quick and dirty, electric conversion.

Well my friend is very pleased with his new toy but.... he would really like a 20” scale!!
The only sensible way to do that is to make a new neck..... so watch this space...
    Personally I feel it...

Re: Ohana prototype tenor guitar video

Yeah it doesn’t bother me what tuning people decided to use but as a six string player myself , DGBE is not a tuning I would use.
I used to play GDAE tenor banjo and I still use that style of...

Re: Single Coil Pickups for Tenor?

standard bass guitar has a 44mm nut, standard tenor guitar is 32mm. So the string spacing would be all wrong.
To be honest I know very little about guitar pickups but perhaps bass guitar pickups...

Re: Ohana prototype tenor guitar video

Not so much on this forum although a few years back when theses pages were a bit more active, there always seemed to be a strong preference for 5ths.
Definitely some heated arguments on other forums...

    Designed for uke players?
Not surprising as more and more folk seem to be tuning (and arguing about) dgbe.
  14. Rough and ready ... quick and dirty, electric conversion.

]I have a friend who has been pestering me to convert a cheap six string electric into a short scale tenon electric.
I have not worked on any instruments for a year or so, as I gave up renting a...

Re: Single Coil Pickups for Tenor?

My main issue is that a 6 string pickup look terrible on a four string instrument, I have used the cheap four string pick ups from EBay and they work fine considering the price but I don’t know of...

Re: Ordered a custom tenor from Davy Stuart

Hmm not sure how one would set up or design the bracing for 8 strings and still get the best from 4 strings?
Sounds like an interesting project though....

Re: Strings for acoustic tenor conversion

No not especially, I buy single guitar strings from my local music store.

Re: Strings for acoustic tenor conversion

When you say a cheap acoustic do you mean a steel six string or a nylon six string?

Anyway a standard set like 10 14 22w 32w would be a good place to start and in fact I find the slightly shorter...
