    Re: Ebay: maple top mandolin

Martin's old AK style mandolin had a koa top as well, in addition to the KOA back/sides.
I have never found a tone comparison of the Martin spruce top vs. the koa top model. I used to own their...

Monster case indeed: looks like chipwood covered with adhesive plastic wood grain tape on the outside.

    Re: Gourd-backed mandolin

That is what I'd call a vegan mandolin. My definite preference over non-vegan kinds such as armadillo and such.

Re: Barrel back mandolin generously blinged

I am unsure about its exact age, however, going by the listing pictures, I am fairly certain that the mandolin was put together by someone who had limited instrument building skills.

  9. Re: What Does Vinaccia and Phillips have in Common ?

Absolutely, especially for the kind of money the seller obviously thinks he/she should get for it. After all, I think that is the plainest looking 19th century Vinaccia mandolin one can find out...
  10. Re: What Does Vinaccia and Phillips have in Common ?

That sounds like a good read indeed….I've placed it on my "to get" book list, with the priority assigned to it even higher than the seminal compendium "The Trauma of Adult Circumcision".
  11. What Does Vinaccia and Phillips have in Common ?

    The answer: nothing.:(

This Pasquale Vinaccia & Sons bowl back mandolin is for sale on eBay with $1,735 BIN price (accepting offers too)....

That's a good one. There is much levity and mirth to be had with comparative linguistics, be it inadvertently or with design.:mandosmiley:

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

The typo could have been worse, if the seller wrote the luthier's name as "Cazzado", or hitting the genuine Neapolitan expression of bonhomie and affection with misspelling "Cazzato".

  21. Re: Sorry, Dr. Leone, your Mandolino is not my Cup of Vino

Thank you David, you are right, they give their company address as in Metropolitan Catania (on Via Palermo, which misled me), and not in the city of Palermo as I wrote by mistake in my OP.
  22. Re: Sorry, Dr. Leone, your Mandolino is not my Cup of Vino

Re: 1909 A4 Gibson Factory Revamped
