    Re: V joint question

I suspect the reason there are a lot more reported dovetail failures is because there are a lot more dovetail joints and they have been used for longer.

I also saw a reference to ones for sale in India. It is possible but I think unlikely they would have made them only for the Indian market. More likely someone putting a Yamaha decal on a cheap Pac...

    Re: String not ringing out

Does the string have a good break angle in the slot? Is it pinched or too loose?

    Re: In Tuneness and Buzz

I too would look at new strings. If it buzzes when fretted it isn't the nut. Have you checked the bridge hasn't moved?

Re: Mando and guitar string question

Unlike most mandolin's, older guitars were usually built for heavier gauge strings. Unless the guitar has structural issues. I wouldn't worry.

I can't comment on this particular case but I used Pelican Cases for delicate instrumentation in the field as a geologist for twenty five years and never had a problem. Great cases.

Re: Reducing chrome Grover F tuner shine.

I have seen some articles on using of board etching solution to relic hardware. Perhaps a very light application would work. Personally I just let time do it's thing.

That looks nice. Good save. No idea on the ID but the staves look more like rosewood than mahogany in the pics.

    Re: Bowed neck issue

I agree. If the neck angle is right don't change it. In addition to the good advice given above. A thicker fret board can help too. Though it will change the feel of the neck.

For me lyrics, usually just a catchy line, start the process. After that the melody I start from singing the line keeps things going. I almost always sing as I write so they go together.
