    Not your average Gibson tenor

This was sold as an L-7C tenor, but it clearly isn’t. The body is 16”, smaller than an L-7, and Gibson only used the Florentine cutaway on these smaller bodies. That’s OK by me – I prefer smaller...

  6. Re: TGG 10 - John Lawlor Variations on: Take Me Out to the Ball G

John does a fine rendition and great variations of the chorus.

Have any of you heard the full song including the verses?

For your enjoyment here is Edward Meeker’s recording done for Edison on...

A more intimate version with his brother on drums. I used to see John and his brother play in a bar in Cape May NJ back in the 80's with the Chris Suey Jazz Band. He blew my socks off.

Thanks for this. I can never get enough of John's playing and it seems like it's been a while since we've had any new videos.
  12. Difference between a tenor guitar and a plectrum guitar

I was cleaning up me laptop today and found a video I recorded in 2017 and never published. I think the reason was the sound of the Session King distorts on the recording, but I've uploaded it 'cos I...

    Story of My Girouard Tenor

One night in summer 2017 as I laid in bed, I emailed Max with a proposition to build a tenor guitar. Through some repair and set-up work he'd done for me before, I had already developed a real...

    Just showing off the collection

I received a new tenor yesterday - well, it was new during the Kennedy administration, but it's new to me - and I took a short break from picking today to gather the group together for a pic:

    Tenor Guitar Tunebook (CGDA) updated

Just a quick note to say that I've revised and updated my free Tenor Guitar Tunebook - up from 41 tunes to 51 tunes.

As before - just stuff I've liked over the years.

I've been looking at these - unbolt the neck, slim it down, and away you go:

Thanks. I found this article curious:

...in 2015 the sale of ukes outpaced the unit sales of electric guitars...

That's really saying something about the popularity of ukes.

  24. Re: Transform a guitar into tenor guitar by changing the neck

Maybe I'm confused (again or still), ;) but isn't the bridge in the wrong place? Is the intonation (fretted notes) ok? Scale length looks to be a lot more than twice the distance from nut to 12th...
  25. Re: Transform a guitar into tenor guitar by changing the neck

I used to own this crazy, great-sounding thing - a hollow electric body merged with a tenor banjo neck (with lots of extra inlays and rhinestones). It was done up by someone in the 70s.
