    Re: Ellsworth Maine

Thanks ptritz, I'm going to take a look at their website. I relayed the info to the wife and she is expressing reservations about their menu. I may have to get her fed before we go ;) As for me, I've...

So I've never been to anything like this, and it is relatively close to me. Am I safe in assuming that local attendees that don't camp are welcome. Not that I will be able to afford it at this late...

Advance research in case of needed fix.
Are there any mando builders in the area that you could happen to find, or hear about while in polite conversation with the locals? Maybe a music store that...

I'm just a beginner but I found this post by Pete Martin in another thread talking about ergonomics and how to hold a mandolin. I've read about it online and in Don's book as well but sometimes I...

    Re: Newbie tuner question

Thanks all for the additional info. Looks like that snark is cheaper than the addon clip for the Korg so that looks like the no brainer. Now if I can figure out how to lose weight on my fingers so...

    Re: Newbie tuner question

Thanks all. Closing the distance definitely helped. The fan noise from the wife's pc probably doesn't help. I have both G's and a D string tuned so far. Gets easier once you get the first one down.

    Re: Newbie tuner question

Nevermind. Seems I can't trust my own eyes. I could have sworn the strings were supposed to be tuned independently, but the book says in unison so now I'm not sure about process.

    Newbie tuner question

Do mandolin tuners need to be clip on? Trying to use a tuner that was purchased for my daughter to tune her violin. Its a Korg CA-1 Chromatic. I have it sitting on the desk while I picking strings...

@TBB I have no idea what a good setup for me would be. Hopefully I'll have some good luck or find someone locally to lookout for me. That might be what the shop is talking about when they say free...

Background: Newb here. Never played an instrument before.
I have read enough of the beginner threads here to know that the Kentucky mandos are well thought of but, I haven't seen any opinion on...
