  1. Re: Anybody from North Kakalacky (North Carolina)

    A Charlaton since 1974.
  2. Re: Learning multiple instruments at once? Am I crazy?

There are no rules, that I'm aware of, concerning how you learn or what instrument you concentrate on.
As Mr. Hopkins mentioned, just have fun with it.
For what it's worth, taking what you learn...

Re: My mandolin got eaten by a Stratocaster.

    To the OP.
You know that there are 24 hours in a day, right?
That's plenty of time to spend with all of your instruments.
I have 30+ electrics and 4 mandolins, always a couple of each in easy...
  4. Re: Life expectancy of modern vs. vintage mandolins

The only way that this is going to be settled is when we all meet back here in, oh, 60 years should do it.
So, June 13, 2078 around 4:00 pm lets see what, and who is in the best shape.
    Catch you...

    Re: Mandolin 101, style designation

One of the reasons that I posted the question was that, considering the engineering aspect, were there ever body styles labeled B, C, D, and E that never got off the drawing board. Now I think that I...

    Mandolin 101, style designation

I've always wondered why the body styles are described as "A" and "F".
I know that there must be historical reasoning but I can't find a definitive proof.
    Thanks in advance guys.

Re: Are you a mandolin picker?

I had not heard the term before, but I like "mandolinist".
Since I'm really more of a guitarist, it seems to make sense.

Re: How do you get better at the mandolin?

There just seems to be no way to get around practicing to get better. No matter what instrument you play.
The OP mentioned that he played guitar before, and I know that 50+ years of guitar has...
  10. Re: Is mandolin easier on the hands/neck than acoustic guitar?

I've been dealing with Carpal Tunnel problems for 40+ years, all while playing acoustic and electric guitars. But I find that I can play the mandolin for a good half hour or so with no problems....

    I'm 100% with Drew.
And you read that comment correctly no matter what anyone says.
  12. Re: Just add it to your cart......and don't ask questions!!!!!

Sorry to "name drop" here, but this is the reason that I enjoy working with Mr. Fear.
I get to ask all the stupid questions that a beginner is going to ask, and I get sensible answers.
    And a...

Rum. Soak your fingers in rum. It might not help, but it won't hurt.

Re: Mandolin as a first instrument...

It's difficult to say from my point of view. I played guitar for 50+ years before I picked up a mandolin.
But as the guys are pointing out, the on-line help is abundant, and if you start with a few...

    Re: Jimmy Dean on RFDTV

I just caught that show an hour ago. It was one of my favorites back in the 60's. Sort of like visiting old friends.

    Re: Tab vs ear

I have always been able to memorize songs pretty quickly. I've played guitar since the '50s and found out early that the songs that I was needing to learn were not usually available on sheet quickly...
