Re: Refinishing the top: pros and cons

Exactly as Sunburst says. Might work might do nothing. I am not knowledgeable enough to know if itnis varnish or not which is why I would have just tried ina small spot. But as has been pointed out...

Re: Refinishing the top: pros and cons

I would nbe tempted to use some alcohol on one small spot and see how the existing finish softens and or moves, smoothout. Then a noce french over that. All depending on what the first test did with...

Re: Show off your back side

Every time I think I had an original idea I find one of the builders here have already done it! Love the back embellishments! But again I'm a day late and a dollar short for a fresh idea.

Re: tone and picks vs strings

Yea true but that isn’t the point. I had two style and three picks of varying sizes, each had a unique tone that I no longer hear and the only change was the strings. The tp thin one was a bit...

    Re: Right Hand Technique

I did a couple things to help my hand strength and ability to manipulate the pick. One was I use those Chinese balls you roll around in your hand. Two I hold the pick in my hand and practice...

    Re: Tonegards

Well, I didn't expect such a debate. I was just really curious if the people who use them still like them and if they did any finish damage. I never leave a tuner on it goes on gets tuned and comes...

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

I am so jealous of those triplets! Seems I am making no progress at all! But it's a great tune and sounds most excellent! I find I hope you continue to post tunes after this year is over! I am...
  17. Re: Would you sacrifice tone for playability?

I let nothing decrease the tone of my instrument to a point. An explanation of tone would be in order. I want a nice solid very good tone up and down the neck. I would not give up the great tone for...

Let's not go crazy this device won't be for everyone. I have no doubt it makes a mandolin sound better to the player rather than having it against the body. I can and have duplicated this. I do not...

    Re: Help with rhythm

Cool patterns, leads me to ask or want to verify, the bold arrow is the chop? What is the upstroke, a light chord or a chop? How do you chop a down stroke and up stroke so quickly, it seems in some...

  22. Re: suggestions/thoughts for someone wanting to learn inlay work

  23. Re: Combination sound hole and a special carve?

I want soemthing different for my sound hole and was sketching out a design then I see this! Way to close to my sketch so back to the drawing board. That is a very cool design!
  24. Re: suggestions/thoughts for someone wanting to learn inlay work

Everything Hogo said. I did one thing different I used water to keep the dust of the shell down when I cut it. Very light mist but I think it helped lube the blade as well. I never thought to bevel...
  25. Re: suggestions/thoughts for someone wanting to learn inlay work

I guess I was a bit vague above but my point is you don't need a ton of tools to try and learn. I would almost bet you have almost all you need at home already to give a practice pice a shot.
