I've done it a couple times as a bassist, but it was more forgetting a complex run while still staying in key, so the only person that really noticed it was me as long as I could stay on the root...
One I haven't seen mentioned: Peter Buck (REM) when he was in his mandolin phase guested on the Concrete Song "Darkening of the Light" (Album: Bloodletting) and has a nice little bit in there.
That's really it. I bought my first mandolin this past month purely for enjoyment and because it's something I always wanted to learn. Ended up with an Eastman 315 that ended up being perfect for me...
I figured it had to have something to do with deadening the strings or something like that. Thanks!
