Re: Favorite Electric Mandolin Albums or Artists?

I'm surprised Andrew Hendryx hasn't been mentioned. "Widening Circles" released in 2020, has a few pieces that are undoubtedly electric mandolin, not amplified acoustic, not a tiny guitar. ...

    Re: Keith Richards

"Start Me Up" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" aren't the same in standard tuning. Not even close. When I first played my Emando (JBbouvier) 5-string upon unpacking, the Stones "Sad, Sad,...

Re: Electric mandolin - who's interesting?

Andrew Hendryx new release "Widening Circles" has, to me, a bit more latitude than many others that feature electric mandolin. It's undoubtedly mandolin. His style and tones are purely electric,...
  4. Re: How has the mandolin changed your guitar playing?

Mandolin was to be my shutdown hobby just a year ago. Very quickly it replaced the guitar after 40 years. I also have an Octave.

As for the picks, I’ve always been a little...selective, to avoid...

    Re: 5-string solid body electric--advice?

I string my Steinberger convertible to have the best of both worlds of bari guitar/mandocello growl and octave mandolin in 5 strings CGDAE. The C is below the guitar's low E, giving a bit more...

Re: What mandocello music to you listen to?

Rick Neilson of Cheap Trick plays one on a few of their earlier recordings, including a song called "Mandocello". That's where I first heard of one, but oddly, never found any other artists of that...

Re: Help please!!!! Messed up pretty bad

FWIW, I bought my Mitchell mandolin a year ago at a decent shop for $56. I traded it in at another shop a few months later and got $75. They aren't great value, but it was fun to learn on, and made...

    Re: Gear for Electric Mandolin

I have an Eastman MD505 with a K&K and use a Vox MV50AC (micro amp) into a 12" Bugera cab. I've also tried my ZT Lunchbox with the same cab (and also it's 6" speaker) and a Bugera acoustic amp, but...

    Re: Pros/Cons - 4 vs. 8 strings

The other advantage with a 4-string electric is that you can add effects, including a slight detune/delay/chorus to make it sound more like 2 courses.

    Re: Amplified playing and effects

I'm new to mandolin but have been playing guitar forever. I haven't been able to gig on a plugged-in mando yet, but I've been experimenting a bit. I've found that a little bit of an octave pedal...

Re: Solo Recordings - 1 Mandolin

    Re: Eastman mandolins for sale

I'd say most of the retail advertisers on the Cafe are Eastman distributors. I bought mine at Bernunzio in Rochester, NY and Mass St Music near Kansas City. I highly recommend both.

  21. Re: Unexpected things/benefits about playing mandolin

I have to wonder, how did you get it from the buyer then back and forth from the nursing home? I'm thinking you're in a large urban area.
