    Re: Ricky Skaggs on NPR

I suspect that Ricky is playing the Dave Harvey copy of the Monroe mandolin that was built a few years ago.

    Ricky Skaggs on NPR

Earlier this week I caught the end of what I assume was a bit of a preview of the Ken Burns documentary on country music that is set to air on September 15th. At the end they brought out everyone...

    Re: What's up with USPS?

Everything I've ordered has showed up early lately but I'd either call the shipper or take a trip down to the Post Office and let them look for it.

    Re: Regal Wendell Hall Guitar?

I haven't seen one of these either but the tuners take it way back I would think unless Regal was sweeping the floor for parts. If I bumped it that I'd buy it.

    Re: Rick Stone mandolins

Really only one mention but it was by a Cafe regular. It appears he has passed on but there are a few articles about him out on the web. This one stood out.

    Re: Jim Richter's website-Gone?

You might have hit it when his hosting company was doing some maintenance or it might simply have been a MOT (a Mystery Of Technology).

    Re: Soares'y Electric Tenor

That's kind of why you would have it custom made. Most good luthiers can make a pickguard no matter what the shape or dimension. If you can order it off the shelf it really isn't custom made.

    Re: Bridge Pin Reamer

If the holes have no taper you just got handed an easy way to seal the holes and redrill.

Re: F-Style Mandola case on eBay

Yes they are, it's everything I've got to not buy one just because. My mandola already has a case.

    Re: A12 to F5G part 2

When it comes to the lump scroll instruments the question "what were they thinking" apparently isn't part of the equation. Apparently they weren't.

Re: Finally, a use for a banjo

Not the first time. Those things can be dangerous. Here's one. The links no longer works but Scott was kind enough to describe what happened. Here's another. This guy actually killed somebody with...

    Re: Tonegards

I always have a tuner on my mandolin headstock when I'm on stage. I value being in tune a bit more than somebody being able to read the logo on my headstock. I do use internal tuners on my guitars...

    Re: Tonegards

I just looked at my Gibson F5G. No dents and that thing probably hasn't been off 5 times since 2005. The only time it comes off is if I'm dropping it off for work someplace. Your mileage may vary....
  20. Re: RIP Al Williams, founder of Calton Cases

RIP, my mandolin has resided in one of his cases almost all its life.

Re: Big Muddy has fret buzz?

If anyone ever has a problem with a non-adjustable bridge there is always this option from Frank Ford's www.frets.com.

Another piece of history from Frank's site.

    Re: Tonegards

They work, I've used them for years. I leave it on my F5G all the time, no finish issues. I've had this mandolin since 2005.
  23. Re: Strange headstock: homemade, or Harmony/Regal/Kay?

Over the years I've seen guitars and mandolins like this and I've never figured out who made them. The binding is always painted on and they look more like toys than instruments. Some have Made in...

Re: Has Anyone Built a Cigar Box Mandolin?
