    seagull dulcimer vs mandolin

I was at guitar center and happened to see this thing I think they call it a "Merlin" and its seagulls cross between a guitar and an Appalachian dulcimer. I really liked its tone, and it had plenty...

    Re: gibson F9 vs kentucky

I have tried a pava and a weber and hated both. I liked even my cheap kentucky km-150 more. I'd have even chosen the gibson I tried over them. I did like the one I had okay but not $4000 okay. LOL it...

    strings for km-950

I know the km-900, and 950 are popular around here. so I'm curious if anybody has went from the medium strings to heavy, and what happened volume and tone wise?

Re: mandolins, wine tasting and organic bananas.

    my pava arrived today.

now my gibson F5G sounded very cutting to me. I can see a hard core bluegrasser prefering that but I didn't. I want something that sings, more round for fiddle tunes yet...

    move over Bill Monroe! LOL

referring to couple posts made, I like a mandolin that sounds good to me AND my audience.

also regarding tone preferences, that's the key I think. I think we all can...

    Re: Upgrade regret?

my take is to trust your ears. I bought instruments in the past that I didn't like the tone of with the idea it was "open up" it never did and I sold that guitar.

so if it was me I'd return it and...

Re: Need advice-planing to buy my first Mandolin

I'm with Multidon. mandolins under 100 bucks are more likely to make you quit mandolin rather than make you go further. several years ago I tried mandolin and picked up a cheap one from some guitar...

we'll see. I still have a km-950 coming for me to try out. it's a gibson type tone. I liked my km-150's tone except for the G string which I hate and it's chop is weak. not that I'm good at chops but...
