Re: A model case for old Gibson

I like the TKL Zero Gravity case a lot, great storage pockets and the mandolin is well protected.

Re: Am I asking too much?

I would just hang onto it for the future, maybe your kid or grandkid will become interested. Or maybe you'll have a student to loan or rent it to. Years ago, I gave a similar model away to someone...

Re: Reccomend a good Mel Bay book

There's quite a variety in this book, folk, Italian, classical themes, Irish, old time, blues and other International music:

  7. Re: How do the Eastman Oval Holes compare to the F hoe Mandos?

I have played 2 Eastman f hole and one Eastman oval. The oval sounded really weak in comparison. The 2 Fs sounded more like a really good oval to be with more of a round sound rather than bark.

    GHS Bobby Osborne strings

I am really enjoying these strings, the D being .24 and the G is .038. I can play much faster and cleaner with the lower strings being a bit less thick. Anyone else like these?

Re: Considering a jump to Flatwounds

The feel of the EFW74s is great. I can play for hours on them, but you lose some volume compared to the Phosphor Bronze strings.

Re: La Bella 770M silver-plated on Godin

The La Bella D & G string will sound a bit brighter and they may wear out a bit sooner, but you might prefer the feel. I would try the LaBellas.
  14. Re: Sarah Jarosz uses Elixir Nanowebs....anybody like them????

The Elixir Nanowebs worked wonders for the sound of my teen's A. They really brightened it up in a good way.

Just a heads up from looking at the samples on the Mel Bay site, there does not appear to be any tablature.

I thought I'd bump up this old thread to see if anyone has any new input.
The trebles on my 1918 A-4 are a bit muted, has anyone tried the bone insert on the e and a strings on an old Gibson?

Re: One string won't stay in tune...

Whenever I have a tuning dilemma like that, it's always a problem with the string getting slightly hung up in the nut.
Is the out of tune string sharp or flat?
