Re: Help comparing Kentuckys for upgrade!

Mandolins are EXPENSIVE overseas (I know!)! The USA is blessed with relatively inexpensive instruments and a plethora of makers and sellers. On the other hand, mandolins are not common in most places...

  3. Re: How much does a Northfield actually cost to make?

I was wondering about this yesterday, and I was wondering if they are really worth the money they ask for them compared to Kentucky and Eastman and Mando Mo, etc.

Re: The Loar LM 600 VS

I always hear good things about The Loar mandolins. I bought an LM370 as that is the only decent instrument available over in my part of the world. It sounds really good, better and better every time...

    Re: Used beginner mandos

I cannot say for certain, but Kentucky has a great reputation for good sounding mandolins that perform well above their price. It sounds like you made a good choice.

    Re: Leave leather strap on?

As long as the leather is not on something brass or bronze it should be okay. It will turn those things green.

Re: Anyone know about Luna mandolins?

Pardon me, but wouldn't it be better to buy something like a Kentucky or Eastman, where there is a high probability of a good sounding instrument, and then put a K&K pickup in it (or something...

I still have my first string change in front of me. I am still learning on the original strings. However, my hands do not sweat, at all. The intonation is still there, and they still sound great. I...

Re: Sometimes you gotta go back to the basics...

I am going to ask a question that might sound silly, but remember that I am just learning. I have an app with a metronome. How many beats per minute should I set it to.

Re: Who makes a good inexpensive Octave Mandolin?

Mandolin Mo Strings has a new octave. It is going to be less than $1500.00 but they have not settled on a price. Beautiful intrumtent though.
Still, the Eastman is a steal.

    Re: Used beginner mandos

Walmart sometimes has Kentucky mandolins very cheap. Sorry, I know they are not used but the price is often in the used range.

Re: Difference in sound in flat top and arch top?

Re: Difference in sound in flat top and arch top?

What is the difference in sound? Is there a tonal quality difference? Is there a volume difference? Being new to mandolins, I am curious as to the different styles and qualities of those styles.
