You honestly don't need a book for two good reasons. First, there are massive collections on-line like The Session and...
I know you said free, but I'd recommend The Amazing Slow Downer App. I've used both it and Audacity, they both work well but I think ASD is easier to use if all you are doing is slowing down a...
For what it's worth, I voted for Belfast and since it's not in the running now I vote for Leaving Friday Harbor as well.
I love my Lakota Leathers strap, but I have been frustrated with it coming of the strap button repeatedly. I had seen a device called a strap lock and was waiting to buy it the next time I ordered a...
Can you imagine this? Caught in an airport storm shelter with Sam Bush and Tim O'Brian. Wish I were so lucky.

I'm in - someday I'll win one of these things!
Athol Highlanders
Blue Bonnets Over the Border
I'm in but so is everyone else
Since I nominated this tune, I better get advocating it. Second place two weeks in a row.
Here is the story of the Stool of Repentance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stool_of_Repentance

Wow! One of my tune suggestions made the cut! I am a piper learing to play the mandolin. This is a beautiful tune. BTW pipers play tunes, not songs. Here is a great version on the guitar.

I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread, but I saw the title and thought the people I am trying to get in touch with might be looking at it.
I am what I think you would call and advanced...
I have a Trinity College Octave. Last week I got to play a bouzouki for the first time and loved the sound of the hi-lo string courses. Anyone have experience or suggestions re: whether this is a...
I am trying to find other advanced beginner/intermediate players (even who play the banjo) to get together with. Looking to play very informally with just one or two other folks in this area -...
I am looking at getting an inexpensive kit to experiment with. I feel pretty confident that I can handle the woodworking/construction part ok, but I know nothing about finishing the instrument. I...
I have never lobbied for a tune before, but I saw this video and just have to share it - this tune is made for the mandolin.

Thanks much!
Lots of banjo tabs out there for this one, but I can't find a decent mandolin tab. Any thoughts?
I also recommend an on line instructional video on YouTube by tonedr. A pretty nice but simple arrangement. You'll learn it in half an hour.
Absolutely in.
Looking at a lightly used OO on line.
Breedlove looks like a good value for the money but I have never played one.
Thoughts? Experience?
Two dead easy tunes - Kerry Polka and the Stool of Repentance (it's Scottish but it will do)
More challenging but still doable an a couple of weeks is Wind that shakes the barley
Thanks for all the advice. One advantage I have is that I am very familiar with jig playing with many years playing them on the pipes.
I'll keep trying to do it the "correct" way for a bit...
I am a relative newbie to the mandolin. I am looking for opinions on picking jigs. I have heard everything from it is essential to good jig playing to always pick down on the down beat - DUD DUD -...
