  1. Re: Carols from the world for Fingerpicking Ukecello

I always appreciate your ukecello invention. Mine is still going strong, I'll get it out and play some Christmas carols soon too.

    Re: Hora Mandola/Octaves

Horas are great value especially if you are able to do your own setup. As Poul said, the tuners are the weak link, and overall fit and finish could be better. They're all solid wood, so very good...
  5. Re: Are there tenors (CGDA) built for gut/nylon strings (not ukes

Ondrej's "ukecello" may just be the ticket: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/threads/133391-Baritone-ukulele-conversion
It is fairly far removed from ukulele sounding at that point I would say....

    Re: Innovation in Minnesota

I saw it sold, any of you the proud new owner? I actually have a different mandolin inbound from Goodwill, so restrained myself from the bidding war on this one.

Not on Reverb, but I've noticed an uptick in various suspect messages on other platforms.

Re: Market value on used Kentucky mandolins

I think you could bump the values up a little considering it's an assessment for a generous donation, Guitar Center has used KM-140s for $350 and if that's what one of the largest retailers of...

    Re: Innovation in Minnesota

That shape is why I ended up selling my balalaika, just not very comfortable unless playing standing, and even then rather ungainly. I do like the creativity though, and I wonder how it sounds.
  11. Re: ISO Solid Body Electric Mandolins - Good Makers? Components?

My Bruno Royal Artist electric mandola has held up well, sounds good with distortion/chorus/delay/reverb. There are some other similar vintage ones you may come across, looks like there are some on...

Re: Pick Up in the Gold Tone OM-800

I think the Gold Tone would get the job done fine in that setting. I still have a Hora bouzouki, I tune it in the Greek manner though. I use it as an interesting alternative to the typical lead...

Re: Pick Up in the Gold Tone OM-800

I have an OM-800+, it is just your typical piezo pickup and has limited onboard control. The Hora it replaced actually had more sophisticated on board controls and arguably better sound(Horas are all...

Re: Wishnevsky Octave Mandolin on Ebay

Still haven't gotten around to getting one of his instruments, but some day I'd like to. Probably a mandocello or maybe a fretless bass. As long as you're not expecting a conventional instrument...

    Re: Electric Phin

In my opinion the non-chromatic scale is what really makes a phin a phin and gives it its unique sound. That being said I'm all for experimenting with developing new types of instruments and such.

    Re: Godin A8 discontinued??

Looks like the Seagull mandolin is still listed, so maybe that's enough of the mandolin market for Godin. Every company is scaling back to focus on core models it seems.
  18. Re: Treating Trigger Finger - My First Cortisone Injection

Re: anyone played a gold tone bouzouki?

I have a Gold Tone octave mandolin, I'd say tonewise the Hora OM it replaced was actually better but the Gold Tone was much better as far as fit/finish/playability etc. Your move with retuning the...

I've always wanted a Godfrey guitar/mandolin since I share his last name, very creative designs and well-made from what I've seen in his videos, just a bit beyond my budget for now.
