    Re: Humidity

I've never had an issue with damage from picking my old mandolins with high humidity except they absorb the moisture fast as they are old and dried out and sound terrible-for sure at a fest with...

    Re: Stolen Mandolin

Oh man, I sure hope she is recovered! I despise thieves! My Gramps guitar is still missing, I have a feeling it was thrown away as my Uncle had it stolen and his original Flathead Gibson banjo down...

    Re: New mandolin player

Welcome to the MADNESS! I would replace the plastic nut with a bone nut! You can get them already done from STEW-MAC, and with a properly fit bridge it'll play and sound better for you. You can...
  4. Re: Seeking vintage tenor guitar neck for a project

Yes evilbay usually has some-I seen that 32 neck Jeff mentioned, There are usually a bunch of tenor banjo necks that would work also and some are quite fancy and can be had at deals!

    Re: 1930ís Stradolin I Bought

Looks great to me! Nice work, I love the sound of some of those I've played. I've thought about getting one that's a bit of a basket case and putting a 5 scale neck on one as on some with the F-hole...

    Re: Block in-lays.

Is yours a flat fret board-that's easy radius not so much! If so add them like the old Gibson F-5's? Some started on the first fret-others the 3rd! I love the look of my 34 F-5 Fern with blocks and...

    Re: refinish top

Pickguards are great and they've never dulled any of the 100's of mandolins I've owned! I have guards on all my personal instruments.

  12. Re: Kalamazoo Mandolin Mystery--zippier sound hole binding

Depression era Gibson was famous for floor sweeps and different parts/specs within the same model! Very Nice indeed!
  13. Re: Mandolin batch in the latest Skinner auction, incl. THREE Shu

Thanks but I'm no dealer but have some friends who are instrument dealers so that's good to know for future reference as I get the Skinner and Heritage instrument auction updates when they have them....
  14. Re: Mandolin batch in the latest Skinner auction, incl. THREE Shu

Wow that outrageous pricing mark-up! So if you win a bid at a deal it sure don't sound too good after all unless its something you just can't live without! Thanks as I had no idea how the aution...
  15. Re: 1923 A2- To Drill Or Not to Drill? That is the question...

I already bought that from Lowell for a 1924 Gibson Tenor Lute that's already converted to a Mandola-very poorly-I got it very cheap-the TL so it'll need a new neck and I'm thinking a White "Amana"...

That Banjo is SICK! Pretty darn good deal at 2G, I've seen the same tailpiece on a few of those and some of the 24 5 strings with the trap door.

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

I'd have to say about 75% maybe more of Gibson banjos are not Gibson banjos but they say it on the headstock! Many builders in the late 60's-90's still put Gibson in the peg heads, Gibson wasn't...

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

Actually wasn't there a thread about the imperfections of the Loar? I think that's what makes the originals so unique, like my Dec. 1st 1924 Loar the flowerpot is far down, a bit cocked and about...
