  1. Re: Does anyone like the new green blue chip picks?

For those of us who prefer non-vegan, they are coming out with a beef bi-product pick mid-year, called -- wait for it --

    Cow Chips

    Probably not edible, btw.

    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

As an owner/player of one of these early F-9s, this is a very interesting thread for me, as was Adrian's earlier thread on the topic... Worth mentioning, Adrian's F-9 was not one of these earlier ...

    Re: Gibson F-9 repair project

There's a pretty fantastic thread, I believe in this forum, opened by Hogo (Adrian) documenting the F-9 repair/rebuild adventure that he embarked upon a few years ago. It's a great read for anyone...

Re: Uncharted territory in my mandolin life

This is a good time for music. It improves our emotional, mental and even our physical health. We probably all need it more now than ever before.

My mandolin is getting a lot of playing time...
  6. Re: Pick-guard/finger-rest, on-off "Stay at home" gallery.

Interesting, I put a pick guard on each of my mandolins before a week of ownership had past, and have never taken them off since then.

(And I'm afraid I'm not about to take them off now.)

    Re: Case search

My Gator ABS molded mandolin case fits my Gibson F-9 with a pickguard, armrest and a ToneGard. Snug but not dangerously so. I've had excellent experience with these cases.

    Re: Informal Poll

I'm very happy with the mandolins I have. I wouldn't have bought another then, nor now, nor later.

Now, if I were to have to replace my F-9 after losing it for some reason, I'd be tempted, but...

Re: Conference Call Jam Session !!

It's worth mentioning that latency does occur on stage. The speed of sound is the limit there, even if a person is using remote IEMs (which incorporate radio waves). Especially if they aren't...

Re: Conference Call Jam Session !!

To help put latency into realistic thought, generally if you say BBBB as fast as you can (which may take a little practice), one of those B's is roughly 1/4 second or 250ms, keeping in mind that 1ms...

    Re: Gibson Post Mortem

Regarding the banjo market, Gibson made so many of the 1986 to 2010 '34-style re-issues that the market is really still flooded (no pun intended). As such I don't think demand has caught up yet. ...
  13. Re: Stressful Times: Bringing New 'E' Up To Tune!

Last time I tuned a 1st & 2nd string up to E was in Sept/Oct 2016, after setting up a few $199 MK mandolins for friends for Christmas. A number of these strings slipped at the loops and I had to...

Re: Conference Call Jam Session !!

As has been discussed, latency is the problem...

Latency is caused by a combination of:
    1) The density of the data being sent
    2) The slowest component(s) in the equipment chain
    3) The...

    Re: Removing pick guard (glued?)

Might consider leaving it in place, perhaps cleaning it up so it doesn't look ugly; then the next owner can still use the pick guard if desired.

    Re: online jamming?

It's a great idea if you are connected to the fastest network with the fastest equipment, but realistically the network lag will kill a jam. Real-time streaming of music video and sound is very...
  18. Re: Anyone have experiencee with a zipper repair kit?

  19. Re: Anyone have experiencee with a zipper repair kit?

A zip-tie makes a great mechanical zipper stop. White or black to match the zipper. Solid but easily removable. Install it from under the zipper if desired to hide the zip-tie lock mechanism, just...
