In all the shuffle, it is tone.
I have had a couple mandolins. The best toned one I had was a Collings MT2-V. It was over 10yrs old when I got it, and the Adirondack Spruce and come into it’s...
As a side thought.
I have stayed places that offer to hold your luggage after you check out. It would be in their safe place, and the general public would not have access to this area.
It might...
I have sent a PM to you.
It can happen.
I bought on eBay what I think is an unbranded Afanti/Pango F5 mandolin. I got it VERY inexpensively. It needed a serious setup, and a replacement full contact bridge for a broken...
:))
Seriously. I took online lessons and found it to be HUGELY beneficial. I was responsible to improve each time before the next lesson. Accountability was super helpful in the learning...
The mandolin, or the builder?
:whistling:
I have been a strong supporter of these for some time now. Surprised it has taken a bit of time for them to catch on.
I really like the 1.25. Comparable to the Bluechip in a number of ways. ...
I am a firm believer in the McClung Armrests as well. They stained one to match my Collings. And they also crafted one from some left over Quilted Maple of my latest White Mandolin. I have an Ebony...
Have you thought of a well aged Collings MT2-V?
The Red Spruce top has a bark, but not too direct. The aged ones have a far warmer tone, with a complex decay of the notes played.
I know where...
Hey All,
You Tube profiled me and dropped a newer to me bluegrass band on my feed. For which I am grateful.

Pretty great that the parents of this young man are...
I too am a FIRM believer in the Radex picks.
I introduced them to a local builder. He now often will ship a new mandolin with this pick.
I am fully on board with you in regard to Tyler’s work!!!
He is bringing together some VERY powerful instruments. I also got one of his not long ago. I could not be more pleased.
Congrats on...

I bought a Pango Asanti F5.
I had the bridge replaced with a full contact one, and had a full setup done. I think maybe even the nut replaced.
I was SUPER impressed.
It continues to...
That poor thing is terribly troubled. :disbelief:
It also looks like the seam on the back is beginning to separate. And the top may be beginning to separate from the sides.
Looks like it spent...

Here is a pic of one of the latest builds by Tyler White. He was able to pick up a pretty amazing piece of wood from @laroseguitars. 207950
He often has some amazing wood for sale.
“ My wife thinks I’m dating a Gibson Mandolin.”
I thought something very similar when I saw the OP title.
:))
I am in support of whatever Scott needs to do to keep a safe and secure website.
Thank you so much, Scott, for all you do!

You might want to consider NOT raising the action. It may change the sweet tone to one closer to your Barking F. The higher tension has a way of focussing the tone.
Glassweb,
Was this the darker finished Adi topped, or the Blonde Engelmann topped?
Hey Gill!
You are not wrong!!
I am no where near this man’s playing ability, but I did get the opportunity to put a hand to these. That A is quite the powerful beast!
The F is also...
I know that it goes without saying. But I can only imagine how amazing the chop-chords are with this one.
I know I also really benefitted from learning the loose fist grip from Mike Compton.
I know Wayne Benson posted a YouTube video on how he also changed his grip to this style over the last two...
What a sweet sounding mandolin. And very nicely played.
Congrats on your newest! May it give you years of joy playing it!
Please keep us posted on this.
Inquiring minds want to know.
I bought a mandolin which I think is one of the Pango brand, as seen on ebay.
The difference in tone was immediately recognized. Definitely to the positive.
I am a sure believer in them. Make...
