Re: Ellis Torch and Wire in todays classified.

Wow, a true work of art. I’m constantly amazed that people can make such things. That mandolin costs more than the car I drive.

Re: What are you playing for the holidays?

Whatever happened to the OP, Pasha Alden? I always thought that was the coolest name I ever heard.

Music is a big part of our Christmas. My wife and sis-in-law and I will go play carols in...

Very cool. I subscribed. Funny, I pictured you as a much older person.
  4. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

Like a lot of people, listening to Nickel Creek was one of the first times I ever remember hearing a mandolin (though it was the music of Kate Rusby a few years later that grabbed me and REALLY made...
  5. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

That's brilliant stuff there and I actually laughed out loud when I read it.

I sometimes watch Marty's show on RFD TV. The level of musicianship with him and his band is just flat out amazing. ...

That is great! But Scotter’s Law actually has a much better ring to it. Rolls off the tongue better and sounds more mysterious.
  7. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

Big fan here. I DVR this on RFDTV and enjoy it a lot. A great way ton discover new artists. And itís always fun to try to figure out what type of mandolin someone is playing. I tend to end up...

Someone should coin a term (like Godwin’s law, etc.) for when Thile gets mentioned and all hell breaks loose after.
  9. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

I wish this show was available via podcast.

    Re: Is my MAS dead?

I can relate to this. I recently drove through Nashville and the urge to visit all the fancy shops was barely there. I mostly could hardly wait to get home and play my own instruments.

    Re: Is my MAS dead?

^^^ This. I don’t look at mandolins anymore but do want a mandola.
  12. Re: To the multi instrumentalists: which instrument is your no. 1

It is mind-blowing to see people who are equally adept at multiple instruments. Some people just seem to have it.

I started on guitar and have been tripping up in the exact same places for 25...

    Re: Heiden vs Northfield GOM

Yes, Collings has a definite mystique (or even snob appeal). I remember looking at the ads back in the day in the guitar mags (Are you getting enough guitar? Serious guitar? — something along those...
  14. Re: You all downloaded the free mando summit app from Northfield

The app works perfectly on my (dinosaur) iPhone 6S.
  15. Re: You all downloaded the free mando summit app from Northfield

Wow, the video section alone is insane. I’m looking forward to digging into this. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Mandolins in the Martin Museum.

My favorite part of the museum was the old shop display with old tools and things. Made me think of how the shop mustíve looked once upon a time.

Re: Mandolins in the Martin Museum.

The museum is not part of the tour but is in the front of the building outside the lobby. One could opt to do the museum and not do the tour. There are two places to play guitars (and buy them...

Re: Mandolins in the Martin Museum.

Yes, did the tour and hung out in the high-end room (or whatever they call it) and played some absolutely wonderful guitars. The two D-28s on the wall were just flat out amazing instruments, as well...

    Re: DR MD-11 mandolin strings

When I had an Eastman, the DR11s were the best strings for that mandolin. Really made it come alive. They don’t work well at all on my Collings though.

Indeed. All were safely stored behind glass. Neat place and worth a stop if you’re in the area.

I sometimes cruise the Guitar Center used section online. Saw a Tacoma mandolin on there recently for $300 in very good condition.
