    Re: El Toro ?

    Hi Dwiggins,
The El Toro will give you something to grow into for many, many years, possibly for life. The sound of Ken's mandolins is unbelievably rich.
  3. Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine on electric tenor

I posted this over on the Newbies Social Group, and thought to post it here as well. CGDA tuned mini-electric and melodica. I'm using a GarageBand Super Reverb plugin :

Re: Looking for Music Documentary Recommendations

    A couple more:
High Lonesome: The Story of Bluegrass Music
Latcho Drom, AKA "Safe Jorney" (Gypsy music from Egypt to Spain; kinda stagey in places, but really astounding music)
  6. Re: Meet new duo The Foreign Landers - David and Tabitha Benedict

That is some tight, fluid playing. Looking forward to more music from you two in the near future to enjoy!

Re: Breedlove mandolins - no on-line catalog?

FYI (and NFI), there's a USA-made K in the classifieds right now.

Re: Ideas for what could be rattling on Mandolin!

    Hey Muppet:

I see you have a James tailpiece. Looks like you checked it was seated, correct? I was recently having the same issue with my A string randomly rattling - definitely more if I played...

Re: Post a picture of what's on your bench?

Wow John, whatever went wrong with building those parlors certainly doesn't show up in the finished instruments! Really fine.

Graham, that is one beautiful instrument. The tulip satinwood is...

Re: PETER GREEN (Fleetwood Mac) R.I.P. no manod

I actually got into PG through the backdoor; I started playing guitar in '79 or '80, and walking into my favorite record store, "Slabo Day" was on. I bought both "Little Dreamer" and "In the Skies"...

Re: NMD Late 70's Ibanez 524?

Congrats Mark, that's a fine-looking instrument with lots of nice old mojo. I even like the scroll! Looking forward to hearing it.

I understand these were really hit & miss - they could either be...

    Re: Off Matt's Bench/New Ruhland

I'll just add also that he's a real gent. He answered all my initial questions promptly and politely, as if he had all the time in the world.

    Re: DolaGard question

Looks like you're right, Drew, I think the first photo above shows that well.

After rebending the arms, I did get a good seating, but the pads are still shy of the bass side rim - hard to see in...

    Re: DolaGard question

Thanks pops1, after speaking to the store, they assured me that careful bending would do the trick, and they'd take it back if not. I did bend the end leg level with the guard & opened up the side...

    DolaGard question

    Hi all,
I just got both a ToneGard & a DolaGard, the latter because it expressly said it's for an Eastman MDA815. The ToneGard slipped right on and made a night & day difference. The DolaGard...

What an inspiring interview. It's true, this is a good moment for introspection. Looking forward to getting the CD!

    Re: Hybrid electric

Hey Keme, this is super fun to follow. Thanks for involving us!

For your next project, I remember using a wood stabilizer, a sort of thinned epoxy, on a crumbly spalted maple electric guitar top...
  19. Re: Tenor Guitar Question: Convert an old guitar or pull the pick

I was going to recommend Flip Scipio or Bob Jones, both in Brooklyn, but swapping the pups into an existing tenor has got to be a more economical way to go - unless those pickups need a custom route....

Re: Your Thoughts On D'Addario XT Strings

As the hot & humid weather is here in my part of the world, I've been thinking about trying coated strings to replace the installed J74s in order to stave off the rust. Any opinions on how XTs...

Sounding great, Mark, nicely played. Being "stuck in a hotel room" has a whole different meaning these days. Hope you're able to get out of CA soon, but at least you've got your mando!

Re: Cool Stuff to Watch When not Playing

The Aretha doc (likely one of many) "Amazing Grace" is a great piece of history.
"Miles - Birth of the Cool" is really inspiring as well.

    Re: Tonegard alternatives

As they say, Isaac, "Your mileage may vary"! I've had a couple of rude surprises when ordering things from the US . I think it depends on who is on duty at the Aduana that day.
